Low back pain: The Intervertebral disc

A disc is a structure between your vertebrae, made up of a soft inner and tough outer part and consists mostly of water.
It has the following functions:
📍Acts as a shock absorber
📍Keeps the distance between your vertebrae during movement
📍Maintains the curve of your back
📍Provides flexibility to your spine.

When overloaded or damaged, it can press against the nerves close to it and cause pain - either at the site of pressure or referred (felt elsewhere).

Fortunately, this is a condition that usually responds very well to physiotherapy, depending on the severity 🙂
