June Movement at Hanya House 🌿

Three things worth knowing this month:

→ New on the schedule: Pure BASI Pilates with biokineticist Sherese Busschau. Clinical depth, classical method.

→ Father's Day Month special: Drop in to any spin class with Nelia Pienaar for R150 — all of June.

→ A reminder: Erin van Schoor's Monday morning Hatha-inspired yoga is open to everyone. Men, women, every level. If you've been telling yourself yoga isn't for you, this is the class to start with.

Every year, the McEvoy family, together with the KES Class of ’87 — and with the incredible support of Jax from the Sweat Shop — make sure that every learner at the TAG Foundation receives a brand-new pair of shoes.

But these are more than just shoes.

They’re comfort. Confidence. Dignity. Joy.
They’re that unforgettable feeling of slipping into a new pair of trainers — something so many of us take for granted.

Seeing the learners’ faces light up as they open their boxes is exactly why this tradition continues year after year.

A heartfelt thank you to Jonny and Traci for your generosity, kindness, and continued support. Thank you for reminding us that giving where it’s truly appreciated is one of the greatest gifts of all. ❤️

Return to play isn’t decided by a single test or one moment on the side-line.
It begins the second the physio steps onto the field.

A safe and effective return-to-play decision requires:
🧭 Objective measures like range, strength, and endurance
🧠 Understanding how the injury affects global movement patterns
💪 Knowledge of the athlete’s baseline capacity and demands
🏃 Integration of sport-specific movement and skill expression
⏱ Awareness of fatigue, load, and match intensity

But high quality decision making also depends on things that can’t always be measured:
✔ clear communication
✔ recognising red flags
✔ differential diagnosis
✔ clinical experience
✔ understanding the context of the athlete and the game

At Lindsay Harris Physiotherapy, field-side care is where data, clinical reasoning, and athlete trust come together.

The goal is always the same:
Clarity. Safety. And the right decision at the right time.

Lets re-iterate:🔽🔽‼️‼️
Field-side decisions are about more than returning to play.
They protect performance, long-term health, careers — and sometimes, lives.

Rugby Season taking its toll on the young bodies?
Let us tell you something.

Field-side physios make decisions in seconds — but those decisions are shaped by years of experience, clinical exposure, and continuous learning.

Field-side decisions are about more than returning to play.
There are made to protect performance, long-term health, careers — and sometimes, lives.

So what does this mean?

An acute injury assessment is far more than a quick check before play resumes.

At Lindsay Harris Physiotherapy, field-side assessment includes the following:

🧠 Asking the right questions
🧭 Assessing movement against objective baselines
💪 Testing strength, control, and function
⏱ Understanding fatigue, load, and match demands
🏃 Determining whether the athlete can safely express sport-specific skills

And just as importantly:

➡️Does the presentation match the mechanism of injury?
➡️Are there any immediate red flags?
➡️Does this athlete require urgent referral or further investigation?
➡️What does their role demand in this moment?

Technology can support decision making — but it never replaces clinical reasoning, experience, and communication.

Lets re-iterate:🔽🔽‼️‼️

When an athlete goes down, the response can’t be reactive — it has to be clinical, calm, and informed.

Field-side physiotherapy is far more than running onto a pitch. It’s real-time decision making under pressure, where athlete safety always comes first.

At Lindsay Harris Physiotherapy, field-side management combines:
🧭 Movement and range assessment
🧠 Clinical reasoning and injury recognition
💪 Strength and load capacity understanding
⏱ Fatigue and endurance awareness
🏃 Sport-specific movement demands

But some of the most important skills aren’t always visible from the sidelines:
✔ recognising red flags immediately
✔ differentiating between injuries in real time
✔ communicating clearly with athletes, coaches, and medical teams
✔ knowing when an athlete can continue — and when they absolutely shouldn’t
✔ making confident referral decisions when needed

Every acute injury is assessed through a structured clinical lens.
Every decision is guided by experience, evidence-based practice, and athlete wellbeing — never the scoreboard.
