I started paying attention to what was actually coming up on my Instagram feed this year and noticing how much absolute nonsense is out there regarding the hormonal chaos of perimenopause and everything else in our industry.

If you’re going to do anything, start with a medical doctor who actually knows a little bit about perimenopause and manages patients daily. Preferably someone who also reads up to date science and doesn’t base their prescriptions (or lack thereof) on data from 2003 (IYKYK).

Yes, we need to make so many changes to our diet 🥦 , our movement 🏋🏼 and address our lives in general during these years but to over complicate it like so many people are doing, intimidates so many women and actually might just do more harm.

Ps. Also stop looking for miracle cures. If your body doesn’t make progesterone, it really just needs it. Your ovaries won’t act like they’re 20 years old when they are in fact, 50 years old.

Pregnant or breastfeeding?

Sadly *all* aesthetic injectables are off limits for you until Bebe is weaned and not dependent on your breast milk.

No trials 🧪 have been conducted on injectables to prove their safety in pregnancy or breastfeeding and these trials will never happen. So best to avoid and focus on skin health and skincare 🧴 (and the little one you’re now responsible for). 😉

Mood mood mood… one of the BIGGEST symptoms of perimenopause that is so often dismissed, overlooked and managed inappropriately.

Our hormones work in all organ systems but especially in our 🧠 brain.

What mood symptoms do we see in perimenopause and menopausal transition?
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Irritability
• Rage
• Loss of confidence
• Apathy
• Insomnia
• Lack of motivation

And as quoted from so many patients in my office 👩🏻‍⚕️:
“I hate everyone”
“Everyone annoys me”
“I hate my body”
“I don’t want to see anyone”
“I’m mean to everyone”
“Everything is wrong”

The prescribing of antidepressants, anxiety medication and sleeping pills to women exponentially increases in midlife. While you may need them, looking at these hormonal influences (amongst others), helps lead to a more comprehensive and successful treatment plan.

Please consult with your personal medical doctor (who is trained in this specifically, like myself) to investigate and manage appropriately.

Just because it’s cold, does not mean that the sun isn’t out to get you… it’s always there.

The UV index may drop slightly in the winter season but the UVA and UVB still extend their rays to us.

☀️ Wear sunscreen. Even if you’re cold 🥶

Do men go through a “menopause” too?

Yes. But it’s called andropause in men.

Their presentation though is not as 🎢 rollercoaster a ride as women go through. Men’s main s*x hormone, testosterone, tends to have a gradual decline which can happen from as early as their 20s and is influenced by so many factors.

And yes, it’s managed very similarly to that of women. And also yes, I see the men cause I fix the women who then send them to me ☺️
