Science Laboratory Brings New Hope to Musoka Secondary School
Chibombo, Keembe – June 12, 2025. The sun rose brightly over Mashikili Ward as residents of Musoka gathered with pride and anticipation to witness a historic moment—the official handover of a 1x2 science laboratory at Musoka Primary School. In a region where chalkboards and textbooks have long been the mainstay of science education, this new facility marks a transformative leap toward hands-on learning and innovation.
The event, graced by Zambia’s Minister of Justice, Hon. Princess Kasune, drew an audience that included local chiefs, government officials, community leaders, teachers, pupils, and proud parents. The Minister, visibly moved by the occasion, delivered a keynote speech that echoed the hopes of many in attendance.
“This milestone is not just about infrastructure,” she said, her voice clear and determined. “It is a declaration of our unwavering commitment to quality education, innovation, and the empowerment of future generations.”
Valued at over K642,000, the science lab is more than just a structure—it is a long-awaited dream brought to life. For years, pupils at Musoka Primary could only imagine chemical reactions, plant cells, and circuits through pictures and textbook descriptions. Now, they can see, touch, experiment, and discover—ushering in a new era of learning.
The facility aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s broader vision of education as a tool for national development. Hon. Kasune reinforced this by reminding the audience of the President’s belief that “no child should be left behind,” especially in rural and underserved areas. She pointed to the government’s education initiatives—including free education, teacher recruitment, and infrastructure investments—as key to achieving that goal.
But the lab’s success story is not just about policy—it’s about people. It is the result of tireless collaboration among teachers, community leaders, ward committees, and government stakeholders. Their shared belief in the transformative power of education culminated in the structure now standing tall on the school grounds.
Teachers are already anticipating the impact. One head teacher, beaming with pride, noted that “this lab gives us tools to finally bridge the gap between theory and practice.” Parents echoed the sentiment, expressing hope that the facility would inspire more children to stay in school and pursue careers in science and technology.
The Minister took a moment to directly address the learners, challenging them to dream big.
“This laboratory is your space to dream, explore, and grow,” she said. “The future of Zambia rests in your hands, and we believe in your potential.”
The ceremony ended not with fanfare but with a renewed sense of purpose. Hon. Kasune reminded all present that this was not the end of a project, but the beginning of a new chapter—one defined by progress, purpose, and the boundless possibilities of education.
As the community dispersed, the gleam of the new lab stood as a symbol of what is possible when vision meets action. In Musoka, a spark has been lit—and for many children in Keembe, the path to the stars has just become a little clearer.
