CHIBOMBO DC OFFICIATES 2025 AGRICULTURAL SHOW UNDER THE THEME: “ADAPTING TO CLIMATE CHANGE”

CHIBOMBO-Monday 30th June 2025

Chibombo Town Council came alive with colour, innovation, and celebration as this year’s Agricultural Commercial Show was officially opened by the District Commissioner, Mr Lloyd Kayeka. The vibrant event took place at the historical Old Boma Council Grounds and drew participation from various stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Held under the 2025 national theme “Adapting to Climate Change”, the show brought together farmers, agribusiness exhibitors, government departments, and community members to highlight the district’s agricultural resilience and explore innovative solutions to climate-related challenges.

In his keynote address, Mr Kayeka urged farmers and local entrepreneurs to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices that build resilience and ensure sustainable food production in the face of changing weather patterns.

“This year’s theme calls for urgent action. We must all rise to the challenge of climate change by transforming how we farm, manage water, and protect our environment. Adaptation is not a choice—it is a necessity,” Mr Kayeka said.

The event was also graced by Chibombo Town Council Chairperson, Mr Newton Nyeleti, who commended the farming community for their resilience and commitment despite harsh climatic conditions. He stressed the importance of government support and innovative technologies to help farmers thrive amid climate uncertainties.

Also present were Councillor Godffrey Mwambazi of Chibombo Ward, Councillor Christopher Sibanda of Muchenje Ward, and District Agricultural Coordinator Mr Denny Sichula, who all highlighted the importance of partnerships between local authorities, farmers, and private sector players in promoting climate-resilient agriculture.

The show featured exhibitions in crop farming, livestock, agro-processing, and sustainable farming technologies. It served as a valuable learning platform for farmers to engage with new ideas, techniques, and markets aligned with climate adaptation goals.

Participants left the event inspired and better informed, with many calling for more such platforms to drive awareness and action around climate adaptation in the agricultural sector.

The Chibombo Agricultural Commercial Show remains a cornerstone event that celebrates the district’s farming spirit while promoting sustainable practices that safeguard its future.

🎉 Hon. Nkulukusa Launches Child Health Week in Katuba Constituency 🎉

Katuba Constituency, June 26, 2025 — The Member of Parliament for Katuba Constituency and Minister for Central Province, Hon. Mwabashike Nkulukusa, has officially launched the Child Health Week (CHW) in Muwanjuni, marking the start of a nationwide campaign aimed at improving child health and wellbeing.

The event, which attracted health workers, community leaders, and hundreds of residents, kickstarted a week-long program of vital health services including immunizations, vitamin A supplementation, deworming, nutrition screening, and health education for children under the age of five.

In his remarks, Hon. Nkulukusa emphasized the importance of prioritizing child health at grassroots level, saying, “Healthy children are the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation. This week reminds us of our collective responsibility to safeguard the future generation by ensuring they have access to essential health services.”

The launch in Muwanjuni reflects government’s ongoing commitment to promoting rural health services and reducing preventable childhood illnesses and deaths across the province. Health officials encouraged parents and guardians to take full advantage of the free services being provided throughout the week.

Child Health Week will run until 28th June, 2025, across various health posts and outreach points in the constituency.

Science Laboratory Brings New Hope to Musoka Secondary School

Chibombo, Keembe – June 12, 2025. The sun rose brightly over Mashikili Ward as residents of Musoka gathered with pride and anticipation to witness a historic moment—the official handover of a 1x2 science laboratory at Musoka Primary School. In a region where chalkboards and textbooks have long been the mainstay of science education, this new facility marks a transformative leap toward hands-on learning and innovation.

The event, graced by Zambia’s Minister of Justice, Hon. Princess Kasune, drew an audience that included local chiefs, government officials, community leaders, teachers, pupils, and proud parents. The Minister, visibly moved by the occasion, delivered a keynote speech that echoed the hopes of many in attendance.

“This milestone is not just about infrastructure,” she said, her voice clear and determined. “It is a declaration of our unwavering commitment to quality education, innovation, and the empowerment of future generations.”

Valued at over K642,000, the science lab is more than just a structure—it is a long-awaited dream brought to life. For years, pupils at Musoka Primary could only imagine chemical reactions, plant cells, and circuits through pictures and textbook descriptions. Now, they can see, touch, experiment, and discover—ushering in a new era of learning.

The facility aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s broader vision of education as a tool for national development. Hon. Kasune reinforced this by reminding the audience of the President’s belief that “no child should be left behind,” especially in rural and underserved areas. She pointed to the government’s education initiatives—including free education, teacher recruitment, and infrastructure investments—as key to achieving that goal.

But the lab’s success story is not just about policy—it’s about people. It is the result of tireless collaboration among teachers, community leaders, ward committees, and government stakeholders. Their shared belief in the transformative power of education culminated in the structure now standing tall on the school grounds.

Teachers are already anticipating the impact. One head teacher, beaming with pride, noted that “this lab gives us tools to finally bridge the gap between theory and practice.” Parents echoed the sentiment, expressing hope that the facility would inspire more children to stay in school and pursue careers in science and technology.

The Minister took a moment to directly address the learners, challenging them to dream big.

“This laboratory is your space to dream, explore, and grow,” she said. “The future of Zambia rests in your hands, and we believe in your potential.”

The ceremony ended not with fanfare but with a renewed sense of purpose. Hon. Kasune reminded all present that this was not the end of a project, but the beginning of a new chapter—one defined by progress, purpose, and the boundless possibilities of education.

As the community dispersed, the gleam of the new lab stood as a symbol of what is possible when vision meets action. In Musoka, a spark has been lit—and for many children in Keembe, the path to the stars has just become a little clearer.
