WORK IS THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR MONEY.

If You Could Earn Your Salary Elsewhere Would You Still Go For Work?

A lot of times I have sat down and had a 'meeting' alone and always the answer to this question, in the subtitle, has been very few if at all there are any.

And believe you me, whoever designed this 08-17hrs, 5 day week up to 65 years retirement age, did not have our interest in mind but theirs. That is why countries like France are changing the laws and many sooner or later will follow suit.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with working but I think very few of us could be at work if we could find something that we could do, which would pay us the same or more amount of money and on top of that actually enjoy it.

Have you ever seen how employees who have gone for a workshop out of town, to some beautiful lodge behave? They wake up all smiles, free breakfast and on top of that get paid for having a nice time. Ideally that is what all of us would want every day but alas it’s not possible.
Why?

The model we inherited, from whoever, was wrong. The best years of our lives are passing us by. Of course it’s not easy to change what has been going on for generations but slowly we have to. Can you imagine having to work from about 23 up to 65 years?

Even the Bible says enjoy your youth but how will do that when all your youthful years you are literally enslaved. Since in our time we were unable to alter this status quo, we should at least try and make a difference in our children’s lives.

Most kids have talents but because we are wired differently we don’t notice them. Yes encourage your kids to get an education as nothing beats knowledge and education but remember also that some people who never set foot in class sometimes earn much more than people holding PHDs because of their talents.

But then again no point in being good at what you do if you can’t read a simple contract, a good footballer, boxer who does not know how to read a contract will just be used by the agent. And like I always say, getting rich is the easier part but getting wealthy is hard because that needs knowledge. This could either be yours or if not you buy it by employing.

Growing up my daughter loved music; I made sure I bought a Violin and Organ for her. She still likes to sing but I see her passion has moved to doing makeup so we bought her the brushes and all the paraphernalia she needs ply her trade.

Whilst I do all this I also encourage her to do well at the university. You will surprised how people are making money and a lot of it in this era. I have a friend in Singapore whose job is to make voice overs for movies. The secret is in identifying what your children or what you are good at and monetizing it.

The struggle we all have is to be able to cover our expenses. If for as long as we live our income is less than our expenses life will always be a struggle. To attain financial freedom even at household level, your income needs to be more than your expense. Many of us are far from this.

The secret is to have multiple sources of income. Multiple sources might sound all complicated but break it down to a money booth somewhere, a ka little vegetable garden, chicken run in the back yard keeping some, taxi etc. And these sources should be able to pay you daily, weekly monthly and maybe quarterly in a year. Why is this important? We live everyday but get paid once in a month, therein lies our problem.

If I was in a much more influential position I would lobby and propose that employees should be paid weekly wages as opposed to a monthly salary. It is easier to plan for a week than for a month.

NORMALLY IN LIFE YOU HAVE GOT THAT ONE SHOT...

And If You Miss It You Might Never Get It Again Or You Have To Wait Long.

So the President went to the University Teaching Hospital to celebrate with mothers who had given birth on Christmas day. As he was going round the beds this midwife Ms. Prisca Mushambila who had been volunteering for some time reached out and asked the President for a permanent job. As a Christmas present to her the wish was granted and an official letter has since been written to her.

I look at situations and derive lessons from them always...

1. Positioning in life- Positioning in life is putting yourself in a place where you can find or be found. If this lady had not gone to volunteer she might not have met the President and have a chance to speak to him. She did and today her story is different.

2. Courage- It was not an easy thing to just come up to the President who she has never met before to come and seek audience with him. But she garnered the courage and the rest they say is history. It calls for courage sometimes to get what you want in life.

3. Luck- When preparation meets opportunity that is what is called luck. No matter how much she spoke to the President, if this lady was not a trained nurse and midwife, nothing would have happened. No matter how much you cry for the job of an Accountant you cannot get it if you are not trained.

4. Advice- It's not always wise to seek advice from friends or relatives. I can assure you if the lady had consulted a friend or her boss they would have discouraged her from doing it. They would have projected their fears on her. If you are convinced deep down about something just do it.

5. One shot at life- We all have one shot at life. Either in marriage, job or indeed opportunity of every kind. Many people remain unmarried because they missed that one person who loved them more than they did. Similarly jobs as well. There is that one shot in life, if you miss it that's it.

6. Everything you don't try you lose 100%- She took her chance, if the answer was negative she would still be volunteering at the same place. She would have lost nothing but imagine she never tried, what was her loss? Figure it out for yourself.

7. Obstacles on the way- These might be in any form to derail you. Security personnel around the President, your bosses and all. Some obstacles in life you avoid, some you jump over but some you just have to bash like a stray dog on the road when you driving fast. For if you avoid hitting into it you might overturn and possibly lose your life. Obstacles will always be there but that you not stop you from going for your prize.

8. Pray for something but be ready too- Prayer is good and we all do pray. But it is folly to lock yourself in the room and pray for money. As you pray go out there and either sell your product or offer a service. Pray for a job but actively seek that job.

9. Get your healing- We all remember the Biblical man shouting for Jesus Son David to heal him. People discouraged him but he continued shouting until he got his healing. He had faith that he will get his healing from the Son of Man. Prisca also had faith that the President will give her the job. Faith is belief in the unseen. In everything have faith and belief.

Have a pleasant morning as we head into 2024. Remember it's only days changing. Do not party yourself to death just because the calendar which was never there at one time has changed years. Your family needs you.

THERE IS A FORMULA, BLUE PRINT FOR EVERYTHING IN LIFE.

Without Which, It Is Very Hard To Succeed.

If you are driving from Kitwe to Ndola you are able to predict that you will get to Ndola at a particular time at the speed you are doing.

This is not by chance, it is because there is a formula, for you to be able to calculate that if you are driving at 100km/h and the distance from Kitwe to Ndola is 50km then you should take half an hour which is 30minutes. Because Time=Distance/Speed.

In school we also learnt that we learnt that you are able to calculate Distance,Time and Speed if you have two of the variables. Distance=Speed *Time, Time=Distance/Speed and lastly Speed=Distance/Time.

Everything in life has a formula, blueprint or a guiding principle. There are laws, universal laws, laws of nature. You walk off the roof of a building you will definitely fall to the ground, you give you will receive, plant you will harvest. Have you never wondered why success does not choose race, religion, complexion or indeed gender?

At the cost of sounding controversial, riches have nothing to do with your religious life, it's either you follow the principles or not. Just like the rain it will not choose to rain only on some field. It will rain everywhere but only fields which have been prepared will have crops germinate.

We must also put a disclaimer here that there are many successful people who have done a 'lot of things' to get where they are, those are not our examples or target audience.

Now that we have established this, what formulae, principles have we noticed or have we been told from interaction with successful people, can we follow?

1. Great ideas- Success follows great ideas. A great idea can bring human resource, capital to you. Ideas come from anywhere and everywhere but who is around you matters. How you spend your time also is very important. It's hard to think in noisy places. Have a quiet time to think.

And by the way the idea doesn't have to be original. You can improve on what is already there and make it much better. Dental floss was already in existence but one air hostess noticed how passengers were struggling to use it. She put plastic handles on both ends and she went on to be a millionaire.

Someone might argue here to say you need capital first. Capital without an idea is just money which sooner or later will disappear. Why do lotto winners and retirees get broke?

2. Knowledge- Having an idea is great but you need knowledge to turn it into reality. It's like speaking to a programmer or coder to turn what you have in your head to something tangible. This has been the reason why many rich people have gone back to default setting instead of wealth. Knowledge doesn't have to be yours, you can buy it by employing. For riches to turn to wealth you need knowledge.

3. Consistency- It takes time to build something everlasting. You have to keep at it despite the obstacles on the way. Keep improving it until it gets to perfection. You cannot afford to be toying around with a lot of things at the same time. A lot of successful people have been doing the same thing for a long time. They only diversify once their original idea has succeeded and later everything they touch turns to gold but the cash cow is the original idea.

4. Network- What company do you keep? Do they inspire you, do they encourage you. Are they the type who will tell you this cannot work? What conversations do you have? They say if you are most intelligent person in your group then you are in the wrong group.

5. Mentioning Your Idea Early- Sometimes when we have great ideas we want to inform our friends or relatives, to our detriment. If you are going to do this leave out the important details. Case in point was one organization which was meant to provide capital to citizens, people who had great ideas went there seeking capital and had to write project proposals. Instead of funding them their ideas were sold to other people who were then funded or had funds.

5. Understanding You- Sometimes when you are on to something do not expect to be understood. Just know that you are ahead of everyone in thinking terms. If everyone can understand your idea then it's something everyone could have thought about too. At one time everyone thought the earth was flat and at that time if you said it was round people would have looked at you in a certain way.

6. Mindset- To use the words of one HH7, very important, very important. What is the state of your mind? What do you think about rich and successful people? Do you think they are satanists, devil worshipers, stingy people, people who sacrificed children to be where they are. You can not be what you don't like. If you want success with a mindset like that you are sabotaging yourself from the very beginning. I repeat you cannot be what you don't like, period.

What levels of money have you handled? We grow into the money. Can you handle success? We move from ones to hundreds on to thousands later millions then billions. Normally if you skip some stages, you spend yourself back to default. What you were comfortable with.

6. Market And Mass Adoption- In China they have the most billionaires if I am not mistaken. Imagine a city like Guangzhou has more people than Zambia. It means if you have developed a product or service and you just get a small percentage of the whole population as your clients you are good to go. How big is the target market? If in Africa don't restrict yourself to your country.

7. Pretending To Be Rich- I have seen a lot of pictures of Rolls Royce on the blue app after the President said do not buy it but buy a Tractor. Most of us are worried about looking rich but in reality we are poor. It's easy for a rich man to pretend to be poor than for a poor man to pretend to be rich because sooner or later something will give you away.

There are many other things we could add here but at least with these we can make a start and besides I need to wake up now 🌞.

Rainy morning here in Chingola. For us a double edged sword really, as we still trying to retrieve our entombed friends but then again the maize fields need water. Catch 22!

CIRCUMSTANCES ALWAYS CHANGE IN THE FUTURE.

Don't Make Permanent Decisions Over Temporal Situations.

In the village setup when a hunter has killed an Elephant, for many weeks to come that will be the topic in the village. It normally takes another big event to change that.

And so this week or last week a man committed su***de because the partner was promiscuous. Last year at about this time we all woke up to the shocking news of the murder of the young lady by her boyfriend over whatever disagreement they had. From the outset I must state that no one, man or woman, deserves to die because of the spouse and no one has the right to end someone's life over love issues.These stories make such sad reading because no one deserves to die because of love.

It would be pretence to say love matters do not hurt.They do but if you cannot control your emotions then how different are you from the animal species? To meet one's death in the manner they did is so painful and no parent would love to wake up to such news.

When you are younger and before life happens to you, there are many things which can easily affect your judgement. You don't have the advantage of experience to be able know where something is leading you. This is not to say old people don't make mistakes, they do.

Let me now advise you young people.

1. Your present circumstances are just that. Live in the present but look to the future, for you don't know what the future holds. You have not yet experienced life. You are barely out of Secondary School and you can't start making permanent decisions for your life. The person you are willing to die for now, later in life you will laugh at yourself.

2. Always listen carefully to what your partner says, if they continuously keep talking about su***de and murders don't dismiss that because mentally they have already committed the murder. It could also be a sign that they are mentally unstable. Run if you hear that, change towns if you can or report them. Prevention is better than cure.

3. A lot of people are from troubled childhoods and maybe were brought up by abusive guardians. They lacked love so any semblance of love to them is something they would not want to lose. We all meet in these different places without really knowing where people are coming from. Take time to know your partners. We are unfortunate these days in that we just meet in the cyber street and fall in love. In our parent's days it mattered which family your spouse came from.

4. Yes you could be young and naive but if you don't intend to do something don't promise something you know you will not fulfill just because at that time you needed something. I have heard a lot of stories of young people, just because they need financial help, agree to things they know they will not fulfill. You know you just want him because you need groceries in the boarding house or you want her to just satisfy your sexual urges, don't go ahead and promise marriage.

5. There is much more to life I can assure you. You have not seen anything yet. Concentrate on bettering your life now for all the things you long for are there in the future without restrictions. You have not lived life yet there is a huge population out there you have not been exposed to. Travel the Country, travel the World.

6. You ain't seen nothing yet. There are plenty women and men out there. You will be spoilt for choice. A lot of people marry their college sweethearts then they get better jobs and money becomes no limitation then they end up going crazy. Take your time.

7. It takes emotional growth to handle a relationship successfully. And that growth comes with time. And there is no shortcuts unfortunately. You have to go through the process.

8. People grow out of a relationship, it's painful when you love someone or maybe infatuated but that's life. Unfortunately you will kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your Prince charming or princess. And you might never even meet one.That is your destiny embrace it.

9. Lastly but not the least I can assure you that there are good things out there. For now concentrate on your education. Don't be distracted with love issues to the point of losing your lives. It's not worth it.

WE ALL HAVE BEEN TO THE EDGE AND BACK....
And Lived To Tell The Tale.

It's funny how when we are in a situation the mind always convinces us that we are the only ones facing that situation and the world does not care about us. If you have not been the edge yet then lucky you but just incase, then read on.

A lot of us have been in situations which we thought we would never come out alive. This could have been due to sickness, loss of a job, loss of a loved one to death or divorce and many other situations.

In such times the future looks bleak and many of us have even contemplated su***de. We never in our wildest dreams ever thought we could get out of those situations alive.

The truth is we did get out and we lived to tell the tale. Many of our colleagues are currently going through the same situations but just hang in there. Help is on the way and the world has not abandoned you.

It's always wise to speak to someone, it always helps, especially strangers for they will mostly be objective. Reason, they will not biased due to previous knowledge. When you are in a situation even the obvious solutions seem far fetched.

Always do a worst case scenario analysis and start from there. What is the worst that can happen to you if the situation you worried about materializes. You then work backwards.

As for those who have been in these situations, is it not surprising that what you feared most did not even take place? Whatever situation you are in right now has a solution and what is not the solution is hari-kari, taking your own life.

As for those who have been through these situations before, be there for someone, we all have some "s**t" going on which needs to be sorted, sometimes just someone listening and offering that assurance that it shall be well.

And if my problem is food do not say it shall be well let's pray about it, without sharing that 25 kg bag of maize meal. For action, indeed, speaks louder than words. Be a brother's keeper or is it sister? Gender...Story for another day!

THE SHIRT ANALOGY.
There Are Always Ways To Solve Issues.

Six years ago today, I still remember how hectic that day was. Thanks to Meta they always remind us of the good and the bad. I went from a speaking engagement with youths who had gathered at some place in Kitwe to later performing some Shibukombe duties.

The diversity of the two engagements made an interesting day and I am glad I started with the motivation talk for the youth first, otherwise could have had a slip of the tongue in the later event.

Digressing………not really, it is whilst driving from the youth event that the idea to write this article hit me.
After some lunch with two colleagues I felt my slim fit shirt almost bursting at the seams. No need for the scale, I knew I had put on some weight.

Barely a month ago this shirt was fitting me perfectly well. As I was thinking about what I should do about my weight I realised as humans we have ways in which we deal with situations which confront us.

What alternatives did I have to deal with the weight I had put on?

1. Do nothing about it- I could choose to just live with my newly acquired weight, live with the discomfort of a very tight slim fit shirt.

Most of us in life behave the same way. After discovering we have a problem, we choose to do nothing about it. A bad job, an abusive partner, bad friends and many more examples. Out of fear we fail to confront situations which could be making our lives miserable or uncomfortable. We have a fear to change our current circumstances.

We have done the first six months of this year, make it a point that all things which you were not happy or comfortable about should be changed or gotten rid of. You owe it to yourself to be happy. You have less than 183 days now, in which to change all the circumstances which are not benefitting to you.

2. Lose weight in order to fit properly- I could have chosen to resume my early morning runs or my gym sessions with my neighbor which I had abandoned.

Some situations we face in life require us to change. When we change everything we look at would have changed. Suddenly all the issues we thought were problems will suddenly be opportunities to us.

Solving these problems and issues takes on a new meaning. Imagine if all of us decided to change the internal being in us, who will look at the other person as a problem. Most of the time we blame everyone else except us for all the unfortunate circumstances we find ourselves in.

Yes you could have had a miserable past but going forward you have the responsibility to shape your future. It is up to you to ‘lose weight in order to fit your slim fit shirt or blouse.’

3. Buy a bigger shirt- Choosing to buy a bigger size shirt so you could fit properly than continue wearing the slim fit shirt.

There are some situations where one chooses to change the external circumstances. But most of the times external circumstances are normally beyond our control. It’s not easy to change the behavior of your friends, work colleagues and all. But you choose to accept them and that is an internal matter. It is easy to control what is within than what is without.

Some external circumstances though can be changed. If you don’t like the job you doing change it, if not happy with your qualifications upgrade them, not happy with your colleagues change the people you hang around with.

In this remaining part of the year it’s really up to you whether you ‘continue wearing the uncomfortable slim fit shirt or buy a much larger shirt.’

As I conclude you have less than 183 days in which to turn your circumstances around. You are the most important piece in the jigsaw puzzle, in the equation, so focus on you and after that think how your actions will affect the people around you.

Your success is already guaranteed because the one who created you wants you to succeed because he has already decreed it and his word cannot go back to him empty handed. God bless you.
