This month, an Act was amended to strengthen provisions around No Bail, No Bond for perpetrators of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). Some citizens are now petitioning for this amendment to be changed or reversed.
On Thursday this week, we will gather at Civic Centre to peacefully stand in support of the No Bail, No Bond provision for SGBV perpetrators.
We recognize that bail and bond are important human rights protections, and our intention is not to oppose human rights. Our stand is about protecting survivors, promoting accountability, and ensuring that justice is taken seriously.
In communities like ours, this provision is necessary because cases often take a long time before they are brought to court. During that time, perpetrators may walk free, interfere with justice, intimidate or influence witnesses, and continue to pose a threat to survivors and the wider community. Too often, it is the survivor whose life is disrupted — forced to seek shelter, relocate, or live in fear — while the accused remains free.
We believe that survivors of abuse and violence deserve safety, dignity, and protection. We also believe that both women and men should live in communities where violence is not tolerated and justice is not delayed or undermined.
Join us as we raise our voices for justice, safety, accountability, and lasting change.
