Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital today the 9th of October 2025 joins the rest of the in commemorating World Sight Day.
An international event that is Commemorated every second Thursday of October annually.

This special event aims at raising awareness and focus attention on the global issue of Eye Health.

The Commemoration is being celebrated under the theme"Putting People at the Heart of Eye Health" through the # Love your eyes campaign and the" Every Story counts " initiave.

From 15th to 19th Spetember, Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital carried out a hospital-based training on Vitreous and retina surgeries, with support from Orbis Zambia gaining valuable skills and insights to strengthen our service delivery in ophthalmic care

KitweTeaching Eye Hospital with support from CBM today launched the Vision for Tomorrow Project.

This project is aimed at advancing Eye health care through Digital Technology in Zambia.

The Launch was held at KitweTeaching Eye Hospital and was graced by the Provincial Health Director Dr. Charles Mwinuna as the Guest of Honor.

Also in attendance was Dr. Demisse and Tadfaye- CBM Eye Health Advisors, Dr. Linda Kasoka Nonde- CBM Country Director, Mr Maurice Ebonyi- CBM program manager for inclusive health, Dr Phyllis Moonga-The National Eye Coordinator MOH, Provincial Heads of Government Departments, Senior Medical Superintendents, District Health Directors among other invited guests.

The project will add value to the Provision of inclusive, quality and comprehensive Eye Health care in the targeted Districts which are Mpongwe, Chingola and Kitwe.

We thank CBM our cooperating Partner for facilitating the implementation of this Project.

KitweTeaching Eye Hospital with support from CBM conducted a 3 day training for staff from KitweTeaching Eye Hospital, chingola District and Mpongwe District at Protea Hotel in Chingola on the use and implementation of the vision for Tomorrow : Advancing eye health care through digital technology in Zambia.

This project will be implemented by Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital with support from CBM in three Districts, Kitwe, Chingola and Mpongwe.

The project seeks to intergrate Portable Eye Examination Kits (PEEK) and Telemedicine practices to transform eye health care in Zambia.

PEEK includes Smart phone - based Ophthalmic Tools for Comprehensive eye Examination, while Telemedicine platforms utilising Slit Lamps, to facilitate remote consultations for patients referred for further Examination or Treatment.

This approach is aimed at bridging the gap between patients in remote areas and health care professionals in Tertiary facilities thus improving early detection and overall eye health outcomes.
