KitweTeaching Eye Hospital with support from CBM conducted a 3 day training for staff from KitweTeaching Eye Hospital, chingola District and Mpongwe District at Protea Hotel in Chingola on the use and implementation of the vision for Tomorrow : Advancing eye health care through digital technology in Zambia.

This project will be implemented by Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital with support from CBM in three Districts, Kitwe, Chingola and Mpongwe.

The project seeks to intergrate Portable Eye Examination Kits (PEEK) and Telemedicine practices to transform eye health care in Zambia.

PEEK includes Smart phone - based Ophthalmic Tools for Comprehensive eye Examination, while Telemedicine platforms utilising Slit Lamps, to facilitate remote consultations for patients referred for further Examination or Treatment.

This approach is aimed at bridging the gap between patients in remote areas and health care professionals in Tertiary facilities thus improving early detection and overall eye health outcomes.

The Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital held an orientation workshop for members of staff on the Safeguarding Policy for the hospital with the support from CBM our cooperating partners who facilitated the Workshop.

The safeguarding policy establishes procedures and guidelines for individuals (Patients, Staff and other stakeholders) to prevent harm, recognize potential risks and respond appropriately when concerns arise.

Hence promoting a culture of safety and wellbeing within the Hospital as everyone understands their responsibilities in safe guarding the Hospital Environment.

Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital (KTEH) with the support from CBM will start implementing the Vision for Tomorrow: Advancing Eye healthcare through digital technology in Zambia Health Project.

The project seeks to integrate Portable Eye Examination Kits (PEEK) and telemedicine practices to transform eye health care in Zambia. The aim of this project is to bridge the gap between patients in remote areas and healthcare professionals in tertiary facilities resulting in early detection of various eye conditions and improvement in eye health outcomes.

The project will focus on three districts on the Copperbelt Province, namely; Chingola, Kitwe and Mpongwe.

To start the project, Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital conducted a two-day PEEK design workshop from 28th to 29th July 2025 at Sherbourne Hotel in Kitwe. The Workshop focusing on the usage of the PEEK software in implementation of project activities in the aforementioned districts.

Kitwe Teaching Eye Hospital appreciates CBM for this project which will help us to reach out to people with eye condition in remote places through the use of PEEK.

This project is in line with the Hospitals mission of providing affordable Eye health care as close to the Community as possible in our quest to eliminate avoidable blindness.
