A friend of mine does Qi Gong classes with me and used her fitness watch to compare a Qi Gong session with a circuit training session. I have to admit even I was surprised at the numbers - imagine burning nearly the same amount of calories without working up a sweat and feeling centred and energised!

Aromatherapy in Your Home

Spring is in the air! Do your spring cleaning the eco-friendly and cost effective way with these simple recipes :)

Freshen up your carpets: Mix 1 cup of baking soda or cornstarch with 20 drops of essential oil. Choose from Lavender, Lemon, Geranium, Pine, Peppermint or Lemongrass. Let the mix stand in a sealed jar overnight for the essential oils to permeate the powder. Sprinkle the powder over your carpets, leave for 20 minutes and then vacuum.
General purpose cleaner: (great for windows too!) Mix 1 cup cooled boiled water with 1 cup of vinegar. To this add 20 drops of essential oil. Choose from Orange, Tea Tree, Peppermint and Lemongrass. Use crumpled newspaper to dry windows after cleaning them, for a brilliant clear sparkle.

Hip Hip Hibiscus!

I have known for some time about the blood pressure lowering and weight loss benefits of drinking hibiscus tea. But only recently did I learn how great it is for skin!
Hibiscus has the amazing ability to inhibit elastase - an enzyme which breaks down our skin's elastin. This helps to keep skin firm and elastic.
Hibiscus contains citric and malic acid which gently exfoliate the skin, increasing cell turnover, which may be helpful for pigmentation and acne.
This wonder flower is also rich in anthocyanocides - antioxidants which protect the skin from premature ageing.

I made myself a beautiful facial toner and will share the recipe :)
Bring 200ml water to the boil with a pinch of green tea leaves (I'm an antioxidant ju**ie!) and a teaspoon of dried hibiscus flowers. Allow to cool to room temperature and then pour into a spray bottle, add 2 to 3 drops of rose geranium essential oil. Use twice daily as part of your skincare routine, or even carry it in your bag for a mist of freshness whenever you need it.
