Let’s Talk About Anemia – When Your Blood is Tired of You! 🩸
Ever felt like no matter how much you sleep, you're still tired 😴? Or you stand up too fast and suddenly the whole world goes into slow motion 😵💫? Your heart's beating fast 🫀but you're just sitting? That could be your blood whispering: “I'm not enough for you…” 😬
What is Anemia?
Anemia is when your blood doesn’t have enough red blood cells or hemoglobin to carry oxygen. That’s right, oxygen—what keeps your organs 🫁🫀, brain 🧠 and entire body alive. So when that’s lacking, your body literally starts dragging you around.
Types of Anemia 📝 🩸
There’s more than one kind of drama in the blood world:
1. Iron Deficiency Anemia
The most common! Caused by lack of iron (from poor diet, heavy periods, ulcers or even worms 🪱 … yep).
Your blood is weak because it can’t make enough hemoglobin.
2. Vitamin B12 or Folate Deficiency Anemia
When your body’s missing key vitamins to make red blood cells. Caused by Poor diet, Alcoholism, Pregnancy, Old Age, Some medications like metformin & antacids, Malabsorption disorders like pernicious Anemia & Crohn's disease..
Think of it as your blood not graduating from red blood school.
3. Hemolytic Anemia
Your body destroys red blood cells too fast.
A case of internal sabotage.
Caused by Autoimmune diseases (e.g., lupus, rheumatoid arthritis), Certain infections (e.g., malaria 🦟 , hepatitis), Genetic disorders (e.g., G6PD deficiency, sickle cell, thalassemia), Blood transfusion reaction🩸 (wrong blood type given), Medications 💊(e.g., some antibiotics, antimalarials, chemotherapy drugs) and Toxins (e.g., snake 🐍venom, some industrial chemicals)..
4. Sickle Cell Anemia
A genetic one — red blood cells are shaped wrong and can’t move well. Common in African populations.
5. Aplastic Anemia
When your bone marrow just gives up on making blood cells.
Caused by: Autoimmune conditions (body attacks its own bone marrow), Viral infections (e.g., Hepatitis,)
