📊 In Zambia, only 64% of babies under 6 months are exclusively breastfed — down from 73% in 2014 and 70% in 2018 (ZDHS 2024).
Behind these numbers are real mothers, real babies, and real challenges.
Too many are missing out on breastmilk — with unmatched health benefits and rich in antibodies that protect against illness and support lifelong health.
I support exclusive breastfeeding — but I also know how hard it can be.
As a twin mum and single parent, I’ve felt that pressure firsthand.

Let’s learn together — and support one another.
👉 Mothers can’t do it alone. Without support, more babies face preventable illness and malnutrition.
Support is needed:
🏡 At home — with empathy and shared responsibility
🏥 In health facilities — with tools, time, and training
💼 At work — with enabling breastfeeding spaces and policies
🌍 In communities — with values that protect and celebrate breastfeeding
Let’s move beyond awareness. Here’s what support looks like:
✔️ Breastfeeding within the first hour — a critical window for a baby’s health
✔️ Time, space, and support to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months
✔️ Introducing safe complementary foods at 6 months, while continuing to breastfeed up to 2 years or more
🤝 This is not just a mother’s issue — it’s a national one.
When we support breastfeeding, we invest in healthier children, stronger families, and a brighter future for Zambia.
This World Breastfeeding Week, I’m joining Unicef Zambia to encourage greater support for mothers- at every level of society.
