On May 18th, for HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, we conducted an outreach program in the Matero community, offering a variety of health services. These included HIV testing, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and health information dissemination.
Recognizing and understanding the behavioral patterns specific to each community is crucial for providing services that meet their precise needs. During this initiative, we reached a total of 245 residents from the Desai community in Matero. Among these:
154 individuals received comprehensive information on HIV prevention, treatment options, family planning, health promotion, condom distribution, and counseling services.
70 people accessed HIV testing and counseling services.
21 young and adult women received family planning services, which included pregnancy tests and both injectable and oral contraceptives.
5 clients were initiated on oral PrEP and were scheduled for follow-up appointments.
In addition to these services, we conducted group discussions with adolescents and young people, focusing on abstinence and delaying sexual debut to promote healthier lifestyle choices.
Overall, our efforts significantly contributed to increasing awareness and accessibility of health services in Matero, aligning with the goals of HIV Vaccine Awareness Day to promote prevention and support community health.
