ZAPD is hosting a Two-Day National Disability Symposium in Mongu at Liseli Lodge ahead of the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The podium is created to enable key disability service institutions and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities exchange knowledge and experiences with a view to promote collaboration and best practices.
Asides knowledge exchange, other objectives include promotion of interaction and coordination among persons with disabilities in Western Province.
In his opening remarks at the symposium, ZAPD director General Mr. Frankson Musukwa highlighted some of the acheivements made in the disability sector this year, among them;
Development of terms of reference and appointment of at least thirty focal point persons in key government ministries at national level
Development and validation of mainstreaming guidelines
Introduction of circular minute number 30 on the accessibility of public infrastructure
Commencement of the revision of the disability assessment tools from medical to a more functional tool based
Launch of the zapd offline registration application and registration of at least forty-two thousand persons with disabilities across the country
Commenced the development of Zambia’s accessibility standards
Facilitated the mobility of at least one thousand persons with disabilities with assistive devices
The 2024 IDPD themed “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future,” will be held at Mongu Stadium, in Mongu, Western Province.
The event will also be held in other districts with ZAPD presence.
