Inspiring conversations at the 16th Annual National HIV/TB/STI/Viral Hepatitis Technical Conference in Lusaka, and many participants are visiting our booth to learn about our innovative approaches to improving access to quality health services.

We showcase the enhanced HIV treatment counseling tool developed by the USAID Zambia Accessible Markets for Health Project and the B-OK bead bottles. These bottles are used by healthcare providers at the project’s affiliate, Mopani Mine Private Hospitals, as part of a comprehensive counseling package for new clients or those returning to HIV treatment after a lapse.

Our B-OK bead bottles, praised by the Mayor of Mufulira, His Worship Tanaeli Kamanga (in 3rd photo) during World AIDS Day recently, make a real difference in helping clients understand their treatment.

We are excited to share best practices from private health facilities regarding HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and family planning. Our USAID Zambia Accessible Markets for Health Project will present oral and poster sessions focused on innovative approaches to improving access to quality health services. Recently at the National World AIDS Day Commemoration at Nkoloma Stadium, our USAID ZAM-Health Project Lusaka Province Manager, Margaret Mwanza, discussed the role of the private sector in strengthening Zambia's HIV response with the acting Minister of Health, Hon. Elias Mubanga, and the Mayor of Lusaka, Her Worship Chilando Chitangala.

Our USAID Zambia Accessible Markets for Health Project made a significant impact during the National World AIDS Day Commemoration on December 2, 2024. In Kabwe, we raised awareness about HIV prevention and treatment, family planning, and maternal and child health services provided in affiliate private health facilities.

Central Province Minister, Hon. Mwabasheke Nkulukusa (right), and Provincial Health Director, Dr. Elijah Mutoloki (left), were excited to see how our engaging and innovative selfie frames are encouraging mothers to prioritize early antenatal care and complete all eight recommended visits.

Same Mandate, Same Focus: We are Coalition Health Zambia
========================================
We are happy to announce that Coalition Health Zambia (CHZ), which has until November 26, 2024 been trading as John Snow Health Zambia, has now officially reverted to using its registered name.

The transition is to enable the organisation refocus, why not changing our strategic direction.

Speaking during the launch, Coalition Health Zambia Interim Chairperson Ms Nylepitha Chirambo-Musonda, expressed gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Zambia, through the Ministry of Health, for the invaluable support it provided to John Snow Health, now Coalition Health Zambia, to operate within the country’s health system.

“It is only through this open collaboration and trust that we are here today, launching an organization that is not only local but extremely committed to the health and well-being of our people,” Ms Musonda said.

Ms Musonda also thanked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), for “recognizing our potential to deliver health solutions tailored to the needs of Zambian communities. USAID entrusted us with your resources/funds when we were a novice organization. Your belief in our mission has been instrumental in our success, and we are grateful for the strong and mutual partnership we share.”

She further reiterated the role that John Snow Inc. (JSI) played in the formation of John Snow Health, now Coalition Health Zambia. “… selfless dedication to facilitating the creation of this organization and for supporting us in building strong, effective management systems that uphold transparency, accountability, and impact. We are forever indebted to them, and their foresight and guidance have brought us to this momentous and proud occasion.”

Ms Musonda emphasised the need for collaboration among stakeholders.

“Coalition Health Zambia stands ready to navigate the evolving landscape of health. We are here to work alongside you, our partners and communities, in addressing a wide range of health issues. Whether it be infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, whether it is infestations like malaria, and bilharzia, or be it mental health support for employees in banks, mines, and factories; whether it’s non-communicable diseases, substance abuse, or health rights advocacy, we are here ready to collaborate with you,” she added

Speaking earlier, CHZ Executive Director, Dr Chanda Michael Mulimansenga reiterated that “for strategic reasons, it has been trading as John Snow Health Zambia Limited, and overtime we have accomplished those strategic purposes and time has come for us to transition back to the name of registration which is Coalition Health Zambia.”

Dr Chanda added that “there is a lot of value in this name in that it depicts the realisation of the fact that we need the skills, talent to coalesce with other stakeholders in order to come together and address societal problems. That is where the name Coalition is anchor – the coming together of stakeholders to address problems.”

He further said that the name change was responding to the localisation agenda which Zambia had embarked on as it recognises Zambian NGO’s have matured to the level where they could drive development.

And officially launching the organisation, JSI Regional Director for Southern Africa, Patricia Ndhlovu commended CHZ for the launch and the impact it has had since its inception.

“The commitment and handwork of CHZ leadership and staff is commendable and I am happy of the work you have implemented over time especially in addressing the needs of the people living with HIV,” Ms Ndhlovu said.

She further reiterated the relationship that JSI has had with JSH, now CHZ since inception.

“What an incredible milestone we are celebrating today, the launch of Coalition Health Zambia. Honoured to have its part of its members to have founded JSH and work with CHZ from inception and partnering with them in various public health initiatives,” she said.
