World AIDS Day, held each year on December 1, is an opportunity to celebrate and support global efforts to prevent new HIV infections, increase HIV awareness and knowledge, and support those living with HIV.

Theme for this year is COMMUNITIES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

World AIDS Day was first observed more than 30 years ago. Since then progress to prevent and treat HIV has been extraordinary. HIV medicines are available to help people with HIV live long, healthy lives and prevent HIV transmission. In addition, effective HIV prevention methods, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), are available.

As Hillview Health Care we join the world in observing this day.

For more information, visit your nearest health centre and talk to a qualified health professional.

Today 15th October the world observes Global Handwashing Day.

It sounds simple: Wash your hands, save lives, but even something as easy and normal as washing hands is often lost on people and it can have serious consequences.
Good Handwashing habits can help reduce and prevent diarrheal diseases.
Global Handwashing Day raises awareness about the importance of washing our hands with soap - an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases.
And the first step towards prevention is maintaining good hygiene.
HAPPY GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY!!!
LET'S WASH AWAY!!!

Today 10th October is World Mental Health Day

Theme: Focus on su***de prevention

Suicidal behaviour has existed throughout human history, but due to several complex factors, it has increased gradually in all parts of the world and has reached alarming levels.
According to WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION su***de is the principal cause of death among people 15 to 29 years old.
It is often believed that only adults exhibit suicidal behaviours, but it should be made known that many children and young people engage in this behaviour as a result of violence sexual abuse, bullying and cyber bullying.
Su***de is a global public health problem that deserves the attention of all mental health professionals and the community at large.
There are many complex factors that contribute to a su***de, but what is most important is that all of our actions must be geared towards prevention.
Getting to talk about a subject that tends to be taboo and about which many hold mistaken and prejudiced ideas will help the communities to learn about the risk factors so that they can identify and learn to address them.
Su***de is prevetable and therefore be avoided which is why all of our efforts should focus on prevention.

Most adults have HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE but may not be aware of this fact.

DIARRHEA IN CHILDREN
The hot season is upon us and it's a season when there are a lot of diarrhea cases especially in children.
Diarrhea can be defined as passing loose stool 3 or more times in 24 hours.
There are many causes, but the most common are viral infections.
Usually the mode of transmission is via feacal oral route.
You can prevent diarrhea by keeping good hygiene.
i.e. - wash your hands before touching and feeding the child
- Wash your hands before breastfeeding
- Wash your hands after using the toilet and changing baby's diaper
- Give the child clean safe water to drink by boiling or adding chlorine.
When diarrhea occures give fluids such as oral rehydration salts (ORS) to keep the child rehydrated and visit any nearest health facility.
