We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Rodney Clyde-Anderson.

He played a vital role in the establishment and growth of the Herd Book Society of Zambia. As a former board member of the Livestock Services Cooperative Society and one of the pioneers behind its inception, his contributions were invaluable. Throughout the co-op's journey, he consistently provided unwavering support, nurturing its development to the successful position it holds today.

Rodney was a prominent farmer in the Mazabuka district, an accomplished cattleman and he was intricately involved in many facets of developing the beef industry over many years within Zambia.

His commitment and development within the agricultural sector and particularly the cattle industry will be felt and remembered for many many years.

Rodney's dedication to the farming community and the people of Zambia will be greatly missed.โค๏ธ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Start A Unique Poultry Business!!!!!!!
Did you know that Guinea fowl farming is more profitable than broiler chickens???? Below are the reasons;
1)The mortality rate in Guinea fowls is 0.43% compared to broiler chickens which is in the range of 40%,50%,60%.Hence helping you achieving your profits as per your calculation.
2) Guinea fowls are disease resistant because their immune system is thrice stronger than village chickens hence cutting vaccination and medical expenses.
3) Guinea fowls in their nature lay eggs 100-150 eggs but under good nutrition and management they can reach upto 200 eggs per laying season.Hence if you have an incubator it's a plus.
4) They multiply quickly than chickens.
5) Guinea fowls partake local and indigenous foods like insects, ground grains, small green grasses, pests and other foods invisible to the human eye.
6) They don't require huge capital to start.
7) Guinea fowl meat is tastier and delicious than chicken meat.It has a gamey taste.Thats why in restaurants Guinea fowl meat is so expensive than chicken meat.
The other advantages of Guinea fowls are:
1) They act as watchdogs from thieves.Guinea fowls can detect thieves at any time weather night or day even if they are sleeping thereby alerting you by producing loud sounds.Thieves avoid compounds with Guinea fowls.
2.They are natural w**d killers.
3.They kill snakes due to their strong beaks and talons.
The only trick about Guinea fowls is to understand their behaviour because they are semi-wild in nature unlike chickens.

Meet Bernard Mwiya the Rich Zambian ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Cattle King ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿค ๐Ÿฎ

Bernard Mwiya only went up to Grade 7, but he now boasts he could send his children to London for school if he wanted to because of the wealth he has accumulated in cattle.
According to the veterinary department, the district has a cattle population of around 140,000.

And Mwiya is one of the big ranchers supplying hundreds of animals every year to Zambeef and Star Beef that end up as beef on dinner plates of many homes in the urban areas.
About two years ago, Mwiya sold 600 animals at a go just to, as he puts it, โ€œto give myself a pension.โ€

He earned about K2 million from that sale and spent it on houses and vehicles.

17 LAWS OF FARMING YOU SHOULD KNOW

1. Never target peak seasons, peak seasons come with their own challenges. Be a farmer not a gambler.

2. Choose at least two main crops and a rotational crop plan. Jumping from one crop to another is not right to your pocket.

3. Plan your farm and always have the crops at different age stages, to ensure constant supply.

4. No crop that is not profitable, just master the pro and cons of a particular crop.

5. Having a lot of many is not a licence to successful farming.

6. Have a spray and fertilizer plan and stick to it.

7. Never take advise from agrovets and agrochemical sales agent. Most of them are sales persons and not agronomists.

8.Try as much as possible to cut down on farm expenditure without compromising on produce quality.

9. Never hold back on a produce, if its a quick perishable product. Sell it at the prevailing prices.

10. Never plant a new seed on large scale before doing trials unless you have seen it somewhere.

11. Never entrust your million dollar idea against a farmhand, ensure you are present during critical stages of crop development untill marketing.

12. Never employ a close family member to manage your farm, most of them will fail you.

13. If you are neighbouring farmers plant same crop.

14. Never apply any farming information you get online, without consulting your agronomist.

15. Always have a farm plan.

16. Old is always good.
Most of the old seed varieties and chemicals will never disappoint you.

17. Passion in farming is key and will take you far.

ZERO TILLAGE

CONSAVATION AGRICULTURE

Conservation tillage is embracing one principle of conservation agriculture "MINIMUM SOIL DISTURBANCES " and includes practices that keep the disturbance of the soil and loss of organic matter to a minimum, reducing soil and water losses. Mostly, the soil is not turned using ploughs.

Zero tillage involves slashing the w**ds and previous crop residues or spraying herbicides for w**d control, and seeding directly through the mulch using direct seeding implements. All crop residues are retained, and fertiliser and amendments are either broadcast on the soil surface or applied during seeding.

EFFECTS :

1.Minimal destruction of soil structure through pulverisation, compaction and/or plough pan developmen.

2.Slower mineralisation of soil organic matter through less exposure to climatic elements and soil micro and macro fauna

3.No disturbance of worms and other soil inhabitants, maintained soil biodiversity and balanced activity and food web in the soil including natural predation.

4.Better infiltration and circulation of air and water into and through the soil profile through maintained bio-pores and vegetative cover and optimal rooting

5.Reduced evaporation from bare soil surfaces
Soil regeneration rate through mineralisation and decomposition and re-structuring higher than soil degradation through loss of porosity and soil particles (erosion) and loss of plant nutrients (fertility)

6.Improved nutrient retention and availability for plant growth and reduced leaching of nitrogen and other nutrients
Improve timely field operations
