Benefits of keeping bees
1. Pollination: bees pollinate flowering plants thus maximising crop yield
2. USEFUL PRODUCTS: honey is valued globally as a healthy food and medicine. Beeswax is used in cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.
3. LAND USE: beekeeping doesn't use up land that could be used for crops. Furthermore, bees visit flowers anywhere, thus farms, forests, protected areas & other natural habitats all have value for beekeeping.
4. LOW COST: hives can be cheap and made using locally available materials. Moreover, bees don't rely upon a beekeeper for food.
5. INCOME GENERATION: there is high demand for honey and other hive products and they fetch a good price.
