OPEN APPEAL TO PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA TO SAVE KABWATA COMMUNITY GYM

We write this open letter to draw your attention to a matter of grave importance affecting the residents of Kabwata Constituency.

It has come to the attention of members of the public that there are renewed plans to sell Kabwata Community Gym, one of the few remaining public social amenities in our constituency.

These plans mainly driven by people elected to represent us in the constituency, have renewed without consultations from the community.

Your Excellency, Kabwata Community Gym has, for decades, served as a safe space for young people to nurture their talents, build confidence, and stay away from harmful activities such as substance abuse and crime.

It has produced athletes who have represented Zambia on various platforms and continue to be a source of inspiration and transformation for many.

We are aware that development is necessary for any growing city, but it must not come at the expense of critical community spaces that serve the public good.

The attempt to sell off this gym appears to be part of a broader trend where public amenities are slowly disappearing in Favor of private interests, often without the consent or consultation of the people they serve.

Therefore, we respectfully call upon your leadership to Immediately halt any ongoing or proposed plans to sell Kabwata Community Gym.

We believe that preserving such facilities aligns with your vision for youth empowerment, public health, and inclusive development.

Kabwata Community Gym is not just a building; it is a lifeline for many.
