ZAMMSA Strengthens Ethical Standards with Induction of Integrity Committee
Lusaka, 02nd September 2025-The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in the procurement and distribution of medical supplies.
Acting Director General, Ms. Jane Banda, has urged staff members to uphold the highest ethical standards in the ex*****on of their duties.
Speaking during the induction ceremony of the newly formed Integrity Committee, Ms. Banda emphasized that the training of the committee represents a strategic investment in strengthening the agency’s institutional credibility.
“Integrity is not optional. It is the backbone of public service. In the face of economic pressures and operational complexity, our ethical standards must remain non-negotiable. We must strengthen internal controls and enhance oversight at every level. Let us act with courage and ensure that ZAMMSA remains a benchmark for ethical excellence in Zambia’s public sector,” Ms. Banda stated.
The training which is being facilitated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), highlighted Zambia’s steady progress in the fight against corruption. According to the ACC, the country’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score has improved from 36 in 2022 to 39 in 2024, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional integrity.
ACC Corruption Prevention Officer, Mr. Lubinda Chirwa, urged committee members to play an active role in deepening the fight against corruption within ZAMMSA.
“The Integrity Committee must enhance whistleblower protection, promote e-governance, and encourage merit-based recruitment to reduce corrupt practices at the agency. These measures are key in building an environment of fairness, accountability, and professionalism,” Mr. Chirwa said.
Committee Chairperson, Mr. Bradley Chingobe, also reaffirmed the team’s commitment to restoring confidence in the agency.
“As a committee, it is our core responsibility to be the eyes of the institution. We will work to ensure that every member of staff at ZAMMSA is sensitized on what constitutes corruption and how to avoid it. Our goal is to restore ZAMMSA’s image as a trusted institution that upholds integrity,” said Mr. Chingobe.
He indicated that strengthening ethical practices will not only safeguard public resources but also enhance the availability and accessibility of essential medicines and medical supplies to the Zambian people.
