PSZ PRESIDENTIAL RE-ELECTION BID (SAINI KENNEDY L.)
Fellow professionals, I greet you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I would like first to convey my heartfelt thanks to all members of the profession, from the most senior Life members up to student members for giving us the mandate and supporting us throughout this leadership period of about one and a half years. And I tell you today that the pharmacy profession is more united and prosperous than we found it. To my executive committee team, you've all given me such incredible joy, love and support, and I will tell you that we had a great team, a wonderful group, a perfect executive. Thank you to Jimmy-my right hand man, and thank you all executive committee members.

I must confess from the outset that this PSZ leadership journey was not easy. At every stage in our quest for pharmacy professional transformation, we overcame different dares and suffered tribulations. We were magnanimous enough to take all the negative energy and convert it into positivity for the greater good of our profession we so dearly love. And today, most professional colleagues will no doubt testify that we have a better PSZ than we found it. And *YES!* It is because of *YOU,* our professional colleagues who decided to chose us from among our equals, not because we were better than the rest, but because you trusted us and gave us the mandate to lead this great profession. We humbly accepted and took up this daunting task acknowledging the huge responsibility placed on our shoulders.

Though we took over the leadership late and during the most difficult period of the COVID 19 pandemic, we immediately hit the road running and in the last one and a half years and through servant, ethical and transparent leadership, we worked our fingers to the bone and managed to transform our profession in many ways than one. And today, we have a vibrant media team and stakeholder engagement strategy that has restored the pride that pharmacy entails and we have enhanced transparency in all PSZ operations including financial dealings. Furthermore, we have created and implemented strong financial management systems and daily operational guidelines. We embarked on constitution review process and the process is almost complete. And we delivered the other priorities in our profession such as; The long awaited completion of the pharmacy house building project, establishing and strengthening strategic partnerships with the MoH and other institutions/partners, developed the draft strategic plan, created the PSZ website, CPD programs, Annual Awards Gala (PSZ Excellency awards), social responsibility programs, opened up practice space and extended our professional roles, professional collaborations, getting us a bus, education and coordination of internship program, advocating for incorporation of Private sector pharmaceutical players in the national health care system, member benefits and protection and institutionalizing corporate governance in PSZ as well as supporting PSZ branches across the country.

True to my words from the beginning of our previous campaigns, ours was not a mere campaign but rather an incredible and great transformational agenda. A transformational agenda made up of thousands of noble, hard-working men and women who love their profession and who supported our bid because they want a better, brighter future for their profession, for the benefit of humanity, the greater PSZ membership and generations to come. It is a movement comprised of pharmacy professionals from all races, talents, skill sets, religions, cultures, backgrounds and beliefs, who wanted and expected our executive to serve the members, and serve the PSZ members we have.

Finally, I wish to announce my re-election bid and officially launch my campaign. I ‘ll once again be running for the PSZ top Job, and I promise you that once re-elected, I will not let you down. We will do a great job. I therefore ask for your support and look very much forward to continue being your President, and I can assure you at the end of two years, you will be proud of your decision. On June 11th, Vote for me, for I have a VISION, DEVOTION, PASSION, EXPERIENCE and PURPOSE to SERVE the profession at this critical time.

Please note that Mr. Waana K. Samulozela will be my Campaign Manager and Media person, or the Vice, Madam Thelma Kaluba and shall from now on be responsible issuing all my official and signed statements.

WHEN YOU SLEEP WITH LIGHTS ON, YOU SHORTEN YOUR LIFESPAN AND INVITE DISEASES

So much renewal and growth take place at night time.

1. Do you know that your body produces a hormone known as melatonin and that this hormone is only produced during the night?

2. Do you know that THE DARKER THE ROOM YOU SLEEP IN, THE GREATER THE PRODUCTION OF THIS USEFUL MELATONIN by your pineal gland?

3. Do you know that this melatonin PROTECTS THE CELLS OF YOUR BODY?

4. Do you know that this melatonin is AN ANTI-STRESS HORMONE?

5. Do you know that this melatonin is an ANTI-AGING HORMONE?

6. Do you know that this melatonin ENHANCES SLEEP and BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY?

7. Do you know that this melatonin INHIBITS the multiplication of CANCER CELLS?

8. Do you know that this melatonin helps to LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE?

14. If you wake up at night to ease yourself, a bed lamp or torchlight emitting close to ORANGE RAYS (DEEP SUNSET COLOUR), amber colour or candle light is recommended to facilitate your movements. The deep sunset colour is the only light wavelength that does not shut down melatonin production at night. All other light spectrum or colours, in varying degrees, shut down the production of this important melatonin. BLUE LIGHT IS THE WORST OF ALL LIGHT TO USE AT NIGHT DURING SLEEP. MELATONIN CAN NOT BE PRODUCED UNDER BLUE LIGHT.

15. Do you know that when, from sleep, you suddenly wake up in the night to answer phone calls, that the light from your phone’s screen interferes with the release of this beneficial, health-promoting hormone?

16. NOW WHAT DO WE DO?
if you are using a smart phone, before you go to bed, click on the ‘eyecare’ icon and that will cast a SUNSET COLOUR ON YOUR PHONE’S SCREEN. Should a call come in at night, you may answer it without melatonin production shutting down. If your device does not have an inbuilt blue filter mechanism, download any BLUE FILTER APP from PLAY STORE and activate it every night before you sleep. The blue filter app will give a sunset cast to your phone’s screen at night.

17. GOD is great, FREE MELATONIN SUPPLY AT NIGHT, IN YOUR SLEEP, AT NO COST; just sleep in dark rooms without switching on wrong lights.

REMEMBER, NATURE IS STRICT AND IS NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS.

MY LEADERSHIP STYLE

To begin this write up, I would like to state from the outset that leadership has some enduring qualities, whether you're leading an army, or you're leading a school, you're leading a business, or you're in politics or even professional bodies like the PSZ. As I present my leadership style, I want to put across a critical question one retired US army General, Stanley McChrystal once asked and I quote, “How can a leader build a sense of shared purpose among people of various ages, education and skill sets?” my answer is as follows;

I come from President George Washington style of leadership, the father of the United States of America who I believe put it very well, and when someone asks me to describe my leadership qualities, I ll’ simply say; a leader has to LISTEN, LEARN, HELP, and then LEAD. Or simply put “Listen, Learn and Lead” in that order. That was his approach. And it has served me well over the years.

LISTEN
None of us has the monopoly of brains or ideas and therefore, I strongly encourage collaboration with others in order to allow inflow of a variety of ideas to achieve greatness. Am well aware that other people's ideas may have merit, and therefore I believe in taking advantage of the brilliance of others for the greater benefit of society. I understand that part of being a servant leader is listening to you the PSZ members.

LEARN
I perfectly understand that one great norm of leadership is learning from your mistakes and other people’s mistakes in order to perform differently and better in future. Am always curious about new ideas, thoughts and concepts because I believe that though I may not completely agree with an idea being shared by a colleague, turning a blind eye, may turn out to be a missed opportunity. In fact, I always seek to stand in another person's shoes and learn their side of the story so well and sometimes reach a more beneficial compromise. I therefore will learn from those who have been down the same path I intend to take (Former PSZ Presidents) and also learn from all of you members of the profession.

HELP/LEAD
As the saying goes; people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. I truly believe that the source of any leadership success is not by a particular leader’s own knowledge or power but it’s more to do with one’s ability to rally people around a shared purpose. UNITY OF PURPOSE, and this is my agenda and it has been ably ingrained throughout my manifesto. We will be true to our campaign slogan by putting the led first in all we do (Pharmacy First). As honest servant leaders, it’s always important and we shall follow the golden rule “do to others as you would have them do to you.”

Finally, I would like to end with the true definition of a leader as embodied by President Washington just like many war heroes, the Medal of Honor recipients; ”it was not their titles or rank that distinguished their actions, it was their principled behaviors, their dedication to their mission.”

DANGEROUS TIMES CALL FOR EXPERIENCED HANDS (THE CURRENT GLOBAL HEALTH STATUS AND STATUS OF THE PHARMACY PROFESSION IN ZAMBIA)

The world currently is facing a global public health THREAT (COVID 19) of significant (Health, economic and other factors) proportion. In such desperate times of disruption in services and (Commodities) supply chain management, organisations need leaders who combine DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE, VISION SETTERS, HIGH INTEGRITY, UNIFIERS and HIGH PERFORMERS. Simply put, the profession desperately needs a Captain with a safe pair of hands, with the above relevant attributes, in order to navigate the ship (PSZ), through all these stormy seas up to the docking port.

Truthfully speaking, although we possess great potential and a great pedigree of technical and academic abilities – we, sadly have allowed our potential to be tamed. We are currently a sleeping giant. We have allowed ourselves to be boxed into silos. There can be no better time to arise than now. We have every ingredient to succeed. We have both the desire and the ability to succeed and definitely we will succeed. This is the right time to shake this off, begin our teamwork and putting on the 5 values (Integrity, Loyalty, Courage, Service and Knowledge), step up and broaden our horizon to unlock the potential and offer the much needed leadership for the betterment of self, each other, the profession and for the public good.

YES, YOU the PSZ Members currently deserve the BEST;

A Leader who stands for PRINCIPLE.....

A Leader who cast aside ANGER for LOVE....

A Leader who UNITES us all behind shared VALUES....

A truly EXPERIENCED, industrious and pragmatic Leader....

In conclusion, my leadership will be anchored on the following; Loyalty to the profession and public good, transparency and integrity, fairness and respect for all members as equal stakeholders in the profession, teamwork with all members in delivering of the best Pharmacy practice in the next 2 years irrespective of the position or sector, objectivity and upholding the dignity of the profession at all times. I finally call on all members of PSZ to take a lead in making PSZ a stronger and relevant professional body that will not only serve and support its members but will also respond to the national health agenda and overall development.

MY GUIDING VALUES

I present to you the transformational values that are meant to help us shake off the individual or solo approach to matters that has made our profession a shadow of its former self and ultimately create an enabling environment for unlocking value for members and desire for total participation and inclusiveness of all members of the profession young and old. They are 5 namely;

1. SERVICE to each other and the public for the greater good of the PSZ and the society;

2. LOYALTY to each other, our profession and the public for the good of the PSZ and the society;

3. INTEGRITY wherever we are even in the face of whatever situations we encounter;

SAINI'S TRACK RECORD IN PSZ

I have a track record in PSZ.
1. Vice President of PSZ; I have served the society at the highest level can assure members that once elected for the top job I won’t be having a learning curve in PSZ matters.

2. COMMITTEE Chairperson; Disciplinary Committee and PSZ COVID 19 Organising/Fundraising Committee.
Am a people’s person because I believe in working with people, through people and for the people and together with your support, we achieved a lot.

3. PSZ National COMMITTEES; I have served under many leaders in several national council committees over the years that includes among others; Finance and fundraising, Education, Strategy, AGM fundraising and Organizing, Awards etc.

4. SPONSORSHIP; Active branch member and sponsored branch and society activities from time to time.

5. STUDENT activities; I have taken part in training Pharmacists and other healthcare workers for the last 6 years and continue to do so, advocated for student’s welfare across all Pharma training institutions and for some sponsored or helped secure sponsorship for their various activities as well as opening up practice space for practice/attachment/apprenticeship and or internship in wholesale and community pharmacy practice.
