Good afternoon 🌞 people of Luapula and beyond

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mambepa, Dr. Kabanda, and Dr. Silwimba for their enlightening radio program on One Love Radio about breast cancer.
Breast cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the breast tissue, affecting both men and women, though it's much more common in women.
Early detection is key, and regular self-exams, clinical exams, images (ultrasound and mammogram), histology or cytology can help identify the disease in its early stages.

The doctors discussed risk factors, including:
- Family history of breast cancer
- Genetic mutations (BRCA1 and BRCA2)
- Age (risk increases with age)
- Radiation exposure
- Obesity
- Hormone replacement therapy
- Early menstruation or late menopause
- Not having children or having first child late or prolonged child spacing or reduced breastfeeding periods.
- smoking
- alcohol intake

They also covered symptoms such as:
- A new lump or mass in the breast
- Changes in breast size or shape
- Ni**le discharge or retraction
- Skin changes, such as dimpling or puckering
- Redness or scaling of the skin

The doctors further discussed diagnosis and treatment options, raising awareness about this critical health issue. Their expertise and dedication to health education are truly commendable.

Remember to visit a nearby registered health facility if you are or know someone experiencing the above symptoms.
Early detection means better outcome.

Remember to join us every Thursday at 14:00 on one love radio for more health related programs.

ROAD SAFETY ALERT!

As healthcare workers, we've seen the devastating impact of road traffic accidents on individuals and families. 🚑 Unfortunately, our hospital has been receiving an increasing number of accident victims, many of whom could have been prevented if traffic rules were observed.

We urge all road users to:

1. Follow speed limits
2. Wear seatbelts OR helmets
3. Avoid distractions while driving OR biking
4. Respect other road users
5. Don't drive or ride under the influence of alcohol or other substances
6. Avoid overloading
7. Ensure your vehicle , motorbike or bicycle are roadworthy.

Let's take responsibility for our actions on the road and prioritize the safety of ourselves and others.
Share this message with your loved ones and let's work towards reducing road traffic accidents in our community! 🚗💬

Good afternoon, Luapula and beyond! 🌞
We'd like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Musunka, Brother Kayoba, and ML Banda for their insightful discussion on K-FM radio about neonatal intensive care unit services.

RECAP

A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a specialized hospital department that provides intensive care to newborns who are premature, critically ill, or have medical conditions requiring close monitoring and advanced treatment. The NICU is equipped with specialized equipment and staffed by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.

Newborns may be admitted to the NICU for various reasons, including:

1. Premature birth
2. Low birth weight
3. Respiratory distress or breathing difficulties
4. Congenital anomalies or birth defects
5. Infections or sepsis
6. Neurological conditions, such as seizures or hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy
7. Cardiac conditions, such as congenital heart defects
8. Jaundice ( yellowing of eyes and skin)

With advances in medical technology and dedicated members and staff and caregivers , many newborns who require NICU admission can survive and thrive.
If your newborn requires NICU admission, it's essential to remember that:

1. The NICU team is dedicated to providing the best possible care for your baby.
2. Many newborns who require NICU care go on to lead healthy, normal lives.
3. Stay involved in your baby's care, and ask questions if you have concerns.
4. Take care of yourself, too, during this challenging time.

Thank you to everyone who tuned in and participated through calls and SMSs – your input is invaluable! Join us every Wednesday at 11:00 on K-FM for more informative health programs.
