SUB TYPES OF SCHIZOPHRENIA
1). PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIA: paranoid means suspiciousness characterized by delusion of persecution, infidelity or jealous and auditory hallucinations.
Other associated features includes anger, unforced, anxiety and violence. Onset is 20 yrs and above and this Onset can be gradual or sudden.
2). HEBERPHRENIC SCHIZOPHRENIA: It is also called disorganized Schizophrenia with the Onset which is sudden characterized by marked thought disorder, incoherent and severe loosening of association.
Patients also have delusions and hallucinations but are not prominent. They have impairment in their ability to maintain daily living activities like dressing , bathing or brushing teeth and also exhibit child like behavior. The Onset is between 15-25 yrs .
3). CATATONIC SCHIZOPHRENIA: Catatonia's is a syndrome of psychomotor disturbances characterized by periods of physical rigidity, negativism or stupor it is characterized by marked disturbances of motor behavior eg stuporous catatonia and catatonia alternating between excitement and stupor.
The patient refuses to eat, lying in bed the whole day, being speechless or being awake the whole night. The prognosis is good , The age of onset is 20 yrs and it is sudden.
4). UNDIFFERENTIATED SCHIZOPHRENIA: The patient exhibit symptoms of Schizophrenia but the symptoms don't meet the criteria for disorganized, catatonic or paranoid Schizophrenia.
Characterized by hallucinations, delusions disorganized speech, catatonic or extremely disorganized behavior.
5) RESIDUE SCHIZOPHRENIA: The diagnosis is made when the patient no longer displays prominent symptoms of Schizophrenia characterized by emotional blunting, social withdraw, illogical thinking and loosening of association. It is diagnosed at least after one episode has occurred.
6). SIMPLE SCHIZOPHRENIA: The Onset is in adolescence age between 10-19yrs characterized by insidious development of eccentric behavior, apathy etc.
