BREASTFEEDING AS A FAMILY PLANNING METHOD

Did you know that you can use exclusive breastfeeding within the first six months after labour and delivery?

Lactational Amenorrhea (LAM) is a natural family planning method that a woman who has just given birth can use within the first six months after delivery.

To use this method effectively, three (3)conditions must be met:

1. You must breastfeed your baby ONLY on breast milk the first six months after delivery(exclusive breastfeeding).

2. Your menstrual period must have not returned within six months.(You must not see your me**es)

3. It must only be used during the first six months after delivery when your baby is exclusively breastfeeding.

LAM is effective ONLY when ALL the above conditions are met and it is temporal. It is important to consider other methods after LAM.

To a baby under 6 months, offer only breast milk no matter how hot it may be. DO NOT offer WATER but offer breast milk more to ensure they are hydrated.
