Trusting the medicine of my grandmother…
The days from my childhood with my grandmother are still very vivid in my memory. Before she passed away on the 28th October in 2011, Milika lived in Chingola town.
Among my memories of her, what I remember most is what Milika taught me about plant medicine. Myself and my late twin sister Chenda Musonda Malama carried distinct memories of her teachings; properties of plants, which parts are useful and when to harvest them. I recall her teaching us not only about Anise but about tumeric, sage and other plants. She would teach us about the uses of every plant/flower that grew in our garden, knowledge which I have carried over the years to strengthen. Specifically I will close my eyes at night and focus on what needs to heal, Almost forming an image, fading and just clear enough to recognise it. Sometimes I’d even have dreams about certain plants then I will keep an eye out when I’m outdoors the next day.
When I research it, its usually something specific to what I was needing to heal.
This is why I thought it very helpful and essential to start this platform. This is a safe space for learning, sharing knowledge and ideas, connection, healing and going back to our roots.
Let’s chat about wise women traditions, medicine making, foraging, holistic health and survival skills.
