✊🏼OVERCOMING SOCIAL ANXIETY
Now let’s talk about overcoming social anxiety in a way that speaks to all of us.

Picture this.👇🏼

A young lady stands to speak holding her notes. Others sit in a circle watching her.In this moment,She is the spotlight.

She could have stayed seated…but she did not.

That moment captures everything you need to understand.

SOCIAL ANXIETY is common, especially among students and young adults. New environments,Constant evaluation,Comparison,Performance pressure.
Your brain reads these as threats. It tries to protect you from rejection. The problem is that it overestimates the danger.

✊🏼Overcoming social anxiety is not about changing who you are. It is about retraining how you respond to fear.(read that again)❤️

Look again at that image.

The presenter may have felt her heart race. Her hands may have trembled. She may have doubted herself. Yet she stood.

That is the shift.

❗️You stop waiting to feel ready.‼️
Confidence does not come first. Action does.

❗️You speak while your voice shakes.
❗️You attend even if you feel awkward.
❗️You introduce yourself even when your chest feels tight.

Know that Each time you act, your brain gathers new evidence.
“I felt anxious and I survived.”🤭🙌🏻That right there feels soo amazing 🥺✊🏼

That is how confidence forms.‼️

You also reduce avoidance gradually. You do not jump from silence to a crowd of one hundred. You build tolerance in steps.
Small conversations. Small groups. Then larger ones. Exposure weakens fear over time so
Please EXPOSE yourself!!!

You challenge distorted thoughts. Social anxiety whispers, “They are judging you.” Pause. Ask for evidence. Most people are thinking about themselves, not analyzing you. Balanced thinking reduces emotional intensity.

👉🏻You regulate your body. Anxiety is physical before it is logical. Slow your breathing. Relax your shoulders. Ground your feet. When your body settles, your mind follows.

👉🏻You redefine progress. Overcoming does not mean you never feel anxious again. It means:

• You feel anxious and still participate!
• You make a mistake and continue!
• You leave a conversation without replaying it for hours!
• You value growth more than approval!

You don’t overcome anxiety by becoming fearless. You overcome it by becoming brave enough to move while afraid.MOVE WHILE AFRAID NO MATTER WHAT!

The Truth is 👇🏼
Many of us are not struggling because we are weak. We are struggling because we are growing. And growth exposes our insecurities before it builds our confidence.
Growth stretches you. It humbles you. It reveals strengths you did not know you had and wounds you did not know needed healing.
Growth is uncomfortable. So be okay with being uncomfortable for the sake of growth.

If you feel discomfort in social spaces, it does not mean you are incapable.

It means you are expanding.

That young lady standing under the tree is not fearless. She is growing. And that is what overcoming social anxiety truly looks like.
So from now onwards, commit yourself to uncomfortability for growth .🙌🏻❤️
Wishing you all the success you need

LET US TALK ABOUT SOCIAL ANXIETY .
What really is it ? What does it look like ??

🚨IMAGINE THIS 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

Jenala stands in-front of the class as it’s her turn to give a presentation .Her notes are ready. Her fellow students are seated. Some are watching. Some are whispering. A few look distracted but Most eyes are on her .

Her heart beats faster‼️

She knows her topic. She prepared. But in that moment, one thought grows louder than everything else.

“What if I embarrass myself?”

👉🏻This is how SOCIAL ANXIETY often shows up. Not as lack of knowledge. Not as lack of ability. But as fear of being judged.

Social anxiety is the intense and persistent fear of negative evaluation in social or performance situations. It is your body’s alarm system reacting to perceived social threat.

In a setting like this one:

• Standing in front of a group
• Answering questions publicly
• Being observed while speaking
• Leading a discussion

Your brain may interpret attention as danger.

Your body responds immediately:

• Fast heartbeat
• Shaking hands
• Tight chest
• Dry mouth
• Blank mind

The body reacts before the logic catches up.

Anxiety itself is not the problem. It is protective. It prepares you to respond to danger.

The problem begins when normal social situations trigger the same alarm as real threats.

From the outside, Jenala may look composed.

Inside, she may be thinking:

• “They are noticing my voice shake.”
• “I am not as confident as I look.”
• “If I mess up, they will remember.”

This is the quiet pressure many students carry.

Social anxiety can present in different forms:

✅Performance based
Fear during presentations, interviews, or speaking in front of groups.

✅Interaction based
Fear during conversations, group discussions, or meeting new people.

✅Observation based
Fear of being watched while completing tasks.

✅Generalized
Fear present in most social settings, often persistent and distressing.

Confidence is not the absence of anxiety. It is moving forward despite it.🚨read that again.👀

Many high achieving students experience social anxiety. It does not mean you are incapable. It means your nervous system is overestimating risk.

The first step is awareness. When you can name it, you reduce its power.

Tomorrow, we continue with OVERCOMING SOCIAL ANXIETY..stay tuned.🙌🏻❤️

Did you know that some serious infections can spread through shared sharp tools in salons and barber shops?
Today’s focus: Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that affects the liver and can spread through contact with infected blood.
How it can spread in salons or barber shops:
• Reusing razors or blades
• Sharing unsterilized clippers
• Accidental cuts with contaminated tools
• Poor disposal of sharp objects
Even small, unseen cuts on the skin can allow infection to spread.
Prevention tips:
✔ Always use new or properly sterilized blades
✔ Disinfect clippers after every client
✔ Avoid sharing sharp tools
✔ Ensure proper disposal of used blades
✔ Consider vaccination against Hepatitis B
Safety is not optional — it protects lives.

A few days ago, I was truly honored and grateful to have been invited by the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association (NIMELSSA UNIJOS) to speak on “Unspoken Realities of an Average Student: Overcoming Social Anxiety, Low Self-Esteem & Imposter Syndrome.”

That moment was more than just a speaking engagement for me — it was an awakening.

As I interacted with the students, I realized how much silent suffering exists behind academic excellence, campus smiles, and “I’m fine” responses. Beyond school pressure and work overload, many students are battling internal struggles linked to academic expectations ,struggles that quietly lower their performance, their confidence, and even their ability to thrive socially.

Social anxiety.
Low self-esteem.
Imposter syndrome.

These are not weaknesses. They are real, lived experiences of many students.

This experience opened my eyes to how urgently mental health awareness needs to be addressed …not as an afterthought, but as a priority. Students deserve safe spaces. They deserve conversations that heal. They deserve tools to overcome, not just survive.

Because of this, MJ Beauty & Health Hub will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness Series from 23rd February to 1st March 2023, mainly targeted at every student out there who may be struggling silently.

This series will focus on:
✨ Understanding social anxiety
✨ Building healthy self-esteem
✨ Overcoming imposter syndrome
✨ Managing academic pressure
✨ Creating supportive networks

You are not alone.
Your struggles are valid.
And healing is possible.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE AWARENESS – DAY 2

Some skin infections can develop after haircuts or hair styling when tools or skin are not properly cleaned.

Today’s focus: Folliculitis (Hair Follicle Infection).

Folliculitis happens when bacteria infect hair follicles, often after shaving or hair cutting with unclean tools.

How it spreads
• Use of unsterilized clippers or razors
• Dirty towels or capes
• Poor skin hygiene after shaving or hair cutting

Signs to watch for

• Small itchy or painful bumps on the skin or scalp
• Pimples around hair roots
• Red or inflamed skin after haircut or shave

Prevention tips

✔ Disinfect clippers and tools after each client
✔ Use clean towels for every client
✔ Clean skin before and after shaving or haircuts
✔ Avoid shaving over irritated skin

Safe grooming protects both clients and service providers.
