Windswept deformity is a condition in which one leg develops a bowed knee, while the other develops knock-knee, meaning one knee tilts inward while the other bends outward. This “windswept” appearance occurs when the growth plate near one knee slows down or stops producing new bone, while the other knee continues to grow normally.
There are several possible causes of windswept deformity, but the most common is rickets, a condition where bones fail to form properly due to a deficiency of calcium, vitamin D, or phosphate.
At CURE Zimbabwe, this condition can be treated free of charge for children and their caregivers. If you know a child who could benefit from treatment, please get in touch with us.
