Treatment options include Guided Growth and Osteotomy. Guided Growth is a minor surgery in which doctors place a small plate near the knee to slow the growth of one leg bone, while the other bone continues to grow at its usual pace. Over time, this helps straighten the child’s leg.

If the condition is more severe and Guided Growth is not an option, doctors may recommend an osteotomy. In this surgery, the surgeon removes a small triangular piece of bone to straighten the leg.

If you would like to schedule an appointment for a child who might need these surgeries, you can send their information by SMS or WhatsApp to +263 772 696 481, email us at zw.info@cureinternational.org, or call +263 867 719 2320.

Limon was born with bilateral clubfoot, which made his feet turn inward and downward. His parents started treatment when he was a baby, but they could not afford to continue after he turned twelve. Without treatment, Limon lost the ability to walk and had to leave school because he could not get there on his own. He felt isolated until his uncle told the family about CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe. After receiving treatment, Limon can walk again and is thankful to CURE’s friends and partners for giving him hope. Limon now runs a small livestock farm project that he runs by himself.

Here are some highlights from our week:

1. Brandon, once wheelchair-bound, now stands confident and tall at the playground. During his review, it was wonderful to hear that Brandon, who once struggled to engage in playful activities because of clubfoot, is now playing more than ever.

2. Ethel and Voyage pose for a portrait on the playground. The playground is just one of many places where children develop friendships, form bonds, and find comfort.

3. Rehabilitation Technician McGibbon works on a computer in the physiotherapy room. Both the hands-on work with children and the desk work come together toward one goal: helping kids heal.

When Lovemore was just 10 years old, his life changed. In 2019, he was admitted to CURE Zambia after an injury in 2012, which later turned into chronic osteomyelitis, a bone infection that would affect his childhood.

At CURE, Lovemore met his surgeon, Dr Giorgio, for the first time. Together with the medical team in Zambia, Dr Giorgio worked hard to save Lovemore’s leg. They tried everything and considered every possible option.

In the end, to protect Lovemore’s health and give him a future without constant pain, the best choice was to amputate his leg so he could have better mobility.

With ongoing support from CURE, Lovemore later received a prosthetic leg. Step by step, he learned to walk again. The prosthetic gave him both mobility and confidence.

Seven years later, in a moment no one could have scripted, Lovemore reunited with Dr Gorgio during the Night to Shine celebrations in Zimbabwe, which was sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Across the years and across borders, doctor and patient found each other again, not in a hospital ward this time, but in a place of dance and celebration.

They embraced warmly, stood side by side and reminisced about the progress and long journeys they had taken.

For years, sixteen-year-old Sharmaine dreamed of one simple thing: wearing pants with confidence. Born with bilateral bowed legs, she endured pain in her knees and painful teasing at school, while her mother, Eustina, believed there was no hope after early therapy brought no improvement. Everything changed when Eustina discovered that Sharmaine’s condition could be corrected through surgery made possible by generous sponsors. Today, after a successful operation, Sharmaine stands straighter, walks without pain, and looks forward to dressing like any other teenager her age. Thanks to your support, she has not only received life-changing treatment but also regained her confidence and a brighter future.

Night to Shine on the 14th of February was an unforgettable event, filled with joy, laughter, and heartwarming moments for both the children and their parents. Without a doubt, the memories created will remain etched in their hearts for years to come.

To help everyone relive those beautiful moments, we’re excited to share a special highlight video that takes us back to the celebration and reminds us of the true significance of honouring and celebrating our Kings and Queens.

A heartfelt thank you to Tim Tebow Foundation for making the night so special, as well as to their wonderful guests, who truly danced their socks off and made the event even more magical.
