Thirteen-year-old Mufaro was born with a bowed left leg that curved outward, leaving a visible gap between her legs and making it difficult for her to pursue her dream of becoming a sports girl. “When I first noticed her condition, I immediately took her to the local hospital, hoping for help, but there were no doctors available who could treat her,” recalled her mother, Rusere. Heartbroken by Mufaro’s constant talk about sports and running, Rusere turned to the internet for answers.

“It felt like fate when I came across the CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe’s page,” she said. “Seeing their wonderful work, I immediately booked an appointment.” Thanks to generous sponsors, Mufaro received a life-changing surgery that restored her confidence and reignited her dreams. “After the surgery, she gained so much confidence; it boosted her morale and deepened her spiritual journey. The inside and out transformation is enough proof that God will take her to greater heights,” Rusere shared joyfully.

People with knock knees often experience pain, weakness, limping, and trouble walking and running. The continual knee-knocking is painful, and the knee’s odd angle also strains the joints, significantly limiting mobility. At CURE, children with this condition can be treated at no cost to them or their caregivers. If you know any children who will benefit from this treatment, please get in touch. To schedule an appointment, please send the child’s information via SMS or WhatsApp: +263 772 696 481, or call us at +263 867 719 2320.

Yaseen, an eleven-year-old boy, developed a leg length discrepancy (LLD) which stemmed from a condition known as osteomyelitis at the age of one. Various attempts to help him only worsened the problem, leaving his left leg bent and much shorter than the other. Due to his condition, he has endured bullying and physical pain, which deeply affected both him and his mother, Portia. A chance encounter after a camping trip introduced Portia to CURE Zimbabwe, where she was encouraged to seek help for her son. Through surgery at CURE Zimbabwe, Yaseen began treatment to lengthen his leg and is now making steady progress.

Chiedza, the mother of five-month-old Anenyasha, who was born with a cleft lip, shared how heartbreaking it was to hear people whisper about her son. She feared that his condition might one day expose him to bullying and discrimination. Her greatest wish was to see her son smile beautifully without the split in his lip. That dream became a reality when she was connected to CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe, where she discovered that Anenyasha’s condition could be treated at no cost to her. Thanks to the support of Smile Train and generous donors, Anenyasha underwent surgery, and today he smiles joyfully as he grows his first teeth.

The course focused on the treatment of older children with clubfoot and covered key areas including the correction of the CAVE deformity, assessment and treatment planning for delayed presenting clubfoot (DPC), patient manipulation and casting, as well as surgical correction.

This was the first training of its kind in Zimbabwe, bringing together Doctors, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation practitioners from across the country. Kulthum, a five-year-old girl born with bilateral clubfoot, has struggled to walk long distances and has been unable to run or play with her friends like other children. Her mother, Fungai, sought help when Kulthum was still a baby, but early treatments such as serial casting brought no improvement, and doctors declared her condition untreatable. Heartbroken and desperate, Fungai sought alternative methods of healing, fearing her daughter was bewitched. Her hope was restored when she met another mother whose child had been successfully treated at CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe, where all surgeries are fully sponsored. Today, thanks to this life-changing support, Kulthum is making tremendous progress, learning to walk on her own two feet, and drawing closer to her dream of wearing shoes and freely playing with her friends.
