On New Year's day l made a home-delivery visit to one of my clients.
She is a retired pharmacist and she needed a herbal extract.
As we were chatting and catching up, I noticed she had a loaded pill organizer on her table. Pill organizers are also called 'compliance aids').
I shifted the chat to the unending problem of poor medicine compliance in the pharmaceutical world.
She moaned ''White people are very strict when it comes to taking their medicines, but black people, aah 🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♂️. They never comply with instructions no matter how many times you advise them."
Her comment simply confirmed what I already knew, but later made me reflect on the matter 'from the other side'.
They say some issues are better understood from 'outside the box'.
In this country there are two parallel health systems; the mainstream western medical system and the dominant traditional medical system, both enshrined in law.
People are free to choose whichever system they want when unwell (so we think).
Generally, in urbanized communities, when someone is ill, they freely elect to visit a western pharmacy, western council clinic, western surgery or western hospital.
They freely agree to be subjected to all sorts of tests before prescription, after which they freely visit a pharmacy to collect their prescribed medication.
At all these stages, they freely pay for the services provided.
Now the question is, how then do the same people who publicly complied with all instructions from the western professionals, now in the privacy of their own homes, fail or decide not to comply with the instructions on the medicine they freely bought?
Examples;
They don't finish the course of antibiotics.
High blood pressure and diabetes tablets are taken only when they feel unwell.
What is the logic of spending time and money hunting for a solution, only to disregard the remedy?
What invisible forces are at play to explain this phenomenon?
Social engineering - When you are out there, the system is in control.
The God inside you - When you are alone, God is in control. God did not make pharmaceuticals. He doesn't know then. Book of Revelations kicks in.
Can those critics who attack traditional medicine for lack of dosage explain this.
