The Silent Killer
Hypertension is a condition in which there is increased pressure of blood flowing through blood vessels. It is a major risk factor for stroke, heart attack and kidney disease. And can be best described as "The Silent Killer".
A good number of patients are diagnosed of Hypertension after they would have presented with complications of sustained high blood pressure.Hence the name "Silent Killer".At this point we would like to urge everyone to adopt the habit of having his/her BP checked at least twice/month.A normal Blood pressure is 130/81 but less than 140/89 will require monitoring and practice of a certain lifestyle(check next article).
Importantly you have to note that 90-95% of hypertensive patients do not have an underlying cause of high blood pressure- the more reason why we encourage the reader to have routine BP checks.
Next time you passby a pharmacy to buy over-the-counter meds just make an effort to have your BP checked
