Today, I had the privilege of appearing as a guest on talk show, 'The Psychotherapist,' where we delved into the complex issue of trauma. Our discussion explored how child trauma manifests, its effects on parenting, and the impact on children raised by parents experiencing trauma.Additionally, we touched on the critical topic of multi-generational trauma and the need to ask questions to break the cycle.

We emphasized the importance of healing, self-discovery, and creating dialogue that promotes healing.

I stressed that it's essential for children to understand that parents are human beings who can make mistakes. Rather than condemning them, we should focus on learning from their experiences and fostering a positive relationship that promotes healing.

The conversation was eye-opening, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my insights. If you're interested in learning more about the show, tune in to every Wednesday at 1830hrs.

November is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, and yesterday, I attended the Men Feel campaign. Kudos to the Foundation for organizing such an impactful program. It was a wonderful experience to share my thoughts on men's mental health. The event featured excellent presenters. Great job by the Ndinewe team; we need more programs like this in November and throughout the year.

Today, I did my presentation at the ongoing Research Innovation and Industrialization Week at the University of Zimbabwe. My research was under the sub-theme: Innovation for promoting social inclusion and youth participation for an industrialized Zimbabwe. Under that sub-theme, I realized that the other presenters were either postgraduate students, PhDs, or professors from the University of Zimbabwe. Despite not being affiliated with the university like other presenters, I really appreciated the university for recognizing my work to empower the youth through Young People Mental Health Trust.

Today, I was invited as one of the guest members by the Psychology Department at the University of Zimbabwe to witness the official opening of the Psychological Services and Teaching Clinic. The event was graced by the Honorable Ambassador Dr. Frederick Shava. The clinic will go a long way to raise awareness, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health issues. After the official opening of the clinic, I also attended the official opening of the Research Innovation and Industrialization Week. I had a chance to see great displays from different exhibitors.

Mental health care services essential in the workplace

Writes Marlvin Ngiza

Mental health experts have called upon employers to prioritise the provision of mental health care services in the workplace by introducing supporting structures for the workforce, trainings of the management on mental health and by encouraging self-care for the employees.

Anxiety disorders and depression have been pointed to be major mental health disorders with the World Health Organization (WHO) revealing that in 2019, 280 million people were living with depression, including 23 million children and adolescents,1 in every 8 people, or 970 million people around the world were living with a mental disorder, with anxiety and depressive disorders the most common and 301 million people were living with an anxiety disorder including 58 million children and adolescents.
Speaking during the World Mental health commemoration,Young People Mental Health Trust (YO-PETALTH) Founder and Executive Secretary Tawanda Murepa expressed that unattended mental health challenges for the workforce costs companies thousands of dollars due to loss of productivity and poor service delivery.

"The reality is that in many companies there are no mental health personnel which automatically mean that the workforce is struggling with mental health disorders. They might be physically present at work but their minds are absent a situation which lead to erroneous work hence loss of productivity.

"So with this year's theme ,employers should view mental health with a different perspective and embrace an environment which offers mental health relief for the workforce. It is hightime that employers incorporate mental health experts as well,"said Murepa

One of the mental health experts Linos Muvhu called for the introduction of mental health supportive structures for the workforce and upscaling of mental health awareness across all spheres.//////

In August this year, I made the exciting decision to join JCI Metro Harare Zimbabwe , a dynamic chapter under the esteemed Zimbabwe. You might wonder why I chose JCI Metro. Well, as a leader in the civic space, I recognize that growth is a lifelong journey. JCI Zimbabwe stood out to me as the perfect space for that growth, with its incredible track record of shaping exceptional leaders. Under the umbrella of JCI Metro Harare, I’m ready to step up and expand my influence, making an even greater difference in the community I serve.

The best is yet to come! 🚀

Today, I had an opportunity to be among the panelists of BE THAT MAN, 3rd Edition. A men's mental health initiative was organized by the Healing Foundation. I gave a presentation on su***de. Men account for 75-80% of su***de, a leading cause of deaths under 50. Lack of support, stereotypes, identity crises, generational trauma, economic hardships, and misconceptions around men's mental health are some of the major causes of su***de among men. It's time for men to support ourselves and challenge the stereotypes imposed on us. Let us be honest about our identities, capabilities, and limitations. It's time to challenge certain behaviors and practices we do as men. Let's be intentional about our mental health. I was also honored to hand over certificates to the participants.

Today, I had the most incredible radio show on Zimgospelmasters radio. It was really amazing. We discussed this year's World Mental Health theme: It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace. Key points: Employers should prioritize employees's mental well-being and provide supportive environments that encourage people who are experiencing mental health problems to open up and seek help. In commemoration of this year's MentalHealthDay, we're offering Young People Mental Health Trust. *FREE* mental health workshops at workplaces. Register with me now. The training will start next week.
