April is C-Section Awareness Month!

In response to our question last week:
💬 “What do you wish you had known before your Caesarean section?”

One of the common questions I got was:
🤱 “Why is my C-section scar itchy?”

In most cases, this is a normal part of the healing process. After a Caesarean section:
✔️ Nerve regeneration occurs as severed skin nerves reconnect, which can cause itching, tingling, or “electric” sensations
✔️ The inflammatory phase of healing triggers histamine release, contributing to itchiness
✔️ New tissue formation and collagen remodelling can make the scar feel tight and itchy
✔️ Scar tissue may also be drier, as it lacks oil and sweat glands

Management and relief:
✔️ Keep the area clean and well-hydrated to reduce dryness
✔️ Use cold compresses to ease inflammation
✔️ Wear loose-fitting clothing to minimise friction
✔️ In more severe cases, antihistamines may be prescribed

⚠️ However, if you notice redness, swelling, discharge, or worsening pain, please seek medical attention promptly.

Healing is a gradual process—continue to care for your body with patience and support 💙

Hey Beautiful —Don’t Forget Your Mental Health 💜

Life can get overwhelming—between work, family, relationships, and everything in between. As women, we often carry so much… quietly.

When was the last time you paused and asked yourself, “How am I really doing?”

Not the quick “I’m fine” we tell everyone… but the honest answer.

Your mind carries a lot—stress, worries, responsibilities—and sometimes it just needs a moment to breathe.

💭 Rest when you’re tired
💭 Speak when you’re overwhelmed
💭 Seek support when it feels heavy

Here’s your reminder today: your mental health matters just as much as your physical health.
🤍 Be gentle with yourself—you’re doing the best you can.

One thing you may not know about perimenopause and menopause…

I meet many women who feel overwhelmed when they start experiencing symptoms of perimenopause or menopause. If this is something you are going through, please know that you are not alone.

One option that many people don’t realise can help is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Evidence shows that CBT can help manage some of the symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause, including mood changes, sleep difficulties, and anxiety.

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, I encourage you to learn more and have a conversation with your doctor about what options may work best for you.

Your health and wellbeing matter at every stage.

Happy International Women’s Day 🌸

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and beauty of women everywhere.

As an OBGYN who has the privilege of caring for women every day, I am constantly inspired by the strength, resilience, and courage that women show through every stage of life.

From young women learning about their health, to mothers bringing new life into the world, to women navigating the many changes their bodies experience over time — it is an honour to walk alongside you in your health journey.

Let us continue to support one another, speak openly about women’s health, and ensure every woman has access to the care and respect she deserves.

💐 Happy Women’s Day to all the incredible women in our communities and beyond.

🌸 Women’s Month: Celebrating You & the Power of Sisterhood

Ladies, this month is all about celebrating YOU. 💜

Women carry so much strength — supporting families, chasing dreams, building careers, and still finding time to care for others. But one of the most powerful things about being a woman is sisterhood.

The encouragement from a friend.
The advice from a sister.
The love from a mother.
The support from another woman who simply understands.

When women uplift and support each other, we all grow stronger.

This Women’s Month, take a moment to celebrate yourself and the amazing women around you.

✨ Tag a woman who inspires you or who has supported you along your journey.

Let’s shine the spotlight on under-diagnosed gynaecological conditions 💜

I meet women every week who have been living with symptoms for months or even years, thinking pain or discomfort is something they must “learn to live with.” It’s not. Many rare or less common gynaecological conditions are often misunderstood or misdiagnosed, which delays the care women truly need.

These may include conditions such as:
✔️ Endometriosis
✔️ Adenomyosis
✔️ Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS)
✔️ Uterine anomalies
✔️ Chronic pelvic pain syndromes

Ongoing pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, recurrent infections, unexplained symptoms, or fertility challenges should never be ignored. With early assessment and the right specialist care, many women experience real relief and improved quality of life.

If you’ve been struggling in silence, please know you’re not alone — and support is available.

👉 Tell us in the comments: which condition would you like us to talk about or explain in more detail next?

With care,
