The National Measles Rubella Campaign is here! 💉✨

From 6th – 10th October, all children aged 6 months to 59 months will receive the measles rubella vaccine and Vitamin A supplementation.

📍 Visit your nearest health facility or community outreach point to protect your child’s health.

✨️ Please note that our vaccination clinics will be open by booking during the National Measles Campaign week (6th – 11th October):

🏥 Avondale Clinic – Monday 6th to Friday 10th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
🏥 Borrowdale Clinic – Saturday 11th, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

The first week of August marks World Breastfeeding Week, led by WHO, UNICEF & partners, celebrating breastfeeding as the foundation for lifelong health, development & equality.

This year highlights the support women & babies need—through skilled counselling, enforcing the breast-milk substitute code, and creating supportive spaces at home, in healthcare & at work.

Breastfeeding isn’t just good for babies—it’s a smart investment: it lowers healthcare costs, boosts cognitive development, strengthens economies & gives every child the healthy start they deserve. (WHO)

🌫 Air quality alert

The air quality monitor at Cambridge Road Paediatrics (Avondale, Harare) has been brought back online — and the latest readings are deeply concerning.

💨 It has recorded PM2.5 levels of 165, which is classified as "Red – Unhealthy".

This isn’t just a number — this level of air pollution is linked to:
❤️ Heart disease
🫁 Asthma, bronchitis
🎗 Cancer
🤰 Pregnancy complications (like pre-eclampsia and premature birth)

The WHO estimates air pollution causes over 8 million deaths each year.
(For comparison, breast cancer causes under 1 million deaths annually.)

Even in the leafy northern suburbs, we’re not safe. Air quality is likely even worse in many other areas of Zimbabwe.
