Wellness Wednesday: Keep Calm and Breathe...

On today's Wellness Wednesday, we're sharing a few tips on regulating our emotions:

✓ Be aware of the emotion and label it, with its intensity e.g. "I am very angry."

✓ Try to accept that reality and avoid judging yourself. Be kind to yourself.

✓ Try some physical activity, e.g. deep breathing, writing how you're thinking and feeling so as to process the emotions.

✓ Ask yourself if there's an alternative helpful way to deal with the situation, and also you may try to shift focus to a more positive outcome.

✓ Ponder on the lesson that you can learn from this. It's a process, not an event. As you work on ways to regulate your emotions, be kind to yourself.

Let's share these tips and experiences to help our loved ones develop healthy strategies for emotional regulation.

Stress Less Sunday: Stress Awareness

This month of April, the Compass Counselling Services join the Global Village as we celebrate this Stress Awareness month of April.

Understanding stressin normal circumstances, the body naturally responds to perceived threats. If this becomes persistent, chronic negative effects on the physical and mental wellbeing can result because of the continuous outpouring of stress hormones.

Factors that can cause stress

These can emanate from internal individual processes e.g.

• low self esteem
• negative self talk
• unrealistic expectations, or
• past traumatic experiences... to name a few.

External causes of stress can be those emanating from interactions with outsiders e.g. friends, relatives or the workplace. It might also be environmental factors or other situations that one cannot control.

Othes stressors can come as a result of life changes eg. job losses, major moves in life e.g. relocating, health challenges, death or loss. Stress can also result from social media where cyberbulling or spread of malicious information can cause distress.

By understanding these situations, one can take measures to learn some coping strategies, better manage stress and improve their overall well being.

Wellness Wednesday: Keep Calm and Self Care on!

Let's talk about physical self-care - the foundation of a happier, healthier you!

You know the drill: Taking care of your body is essential for boosting energy, happiness, and overall well-being. So, here are some simple yet powerful tips to get you started:

✓ Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! - Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin glowing, your muscles strong, and your mind focused.

✓ Get moving! - Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, 3-4 times a week. Whether it's a brisk walk, a quick workout, or dancing, find an activity that makes you smile!

✓ Snooze control - Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to help your body repair, recharge, and feel refreshed.

✓ Nourish your body - Focus on whole, unprocessed foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Your body (and taste buds) will thank you!

So, which physical self-care habit will you start with today? Share with a friend and let us make self-care a priority together!

Stress-Less Sunday: Self care as self love

Practice self-compassion by treating yourself with kindness, understanding, and patience. Acknowledge your emotions and remind yourself that it's OK to feel overwhelmed. Try writing yourself a letter or creating a self-care plan to promote self-compassion. Additionally, try speak to yourself as you would to a close friend, using gentle and supportive language to help calm your mind and soothe your heart.

If you or someone you know is struggling with self-harm or mental health and other issues, please reach out for help. You are not alone ❤️
