Today let's talk self-care in the office!
People working in the office spend an average of 8 hours at the desk. This makes it very important to ensure that the workplace is somewhere conducive for work and a healthy environment.
Here are 10 tips for self-care at your desk:
1. STAY COMFORTABLE
Ensure your workstation is ergonomic and comfortable. Check the height of your chair in relation to your desk and ensure your monitor/ laptop screen is at eye- level. Declutter your desk from time to time- discard or organize loose papers, store loose items in trays etc.
2. STAY HYDRATED!
Carry a water bottle to work and drink at least 2-3L per day. Drink this water slowly throughout the day so that it's easier - using a bottle with a straw or with time measurements can make it easier for those who struggle to drink water. Throw in some lemon, cucumber, strawberry and/or chia seeds to enhance your water in a healthy way!
3. SET A TIMER TO GET UP FROM YOUR DESK EVERY HOUR
Set a timer to stand up and stretch every hour. You can do a few stretches at the desk or walk for a short distance ( a few steps in the office or to the toilet, coffee station or water station). Getting up often helps to break that cycle of staying stationery for too long and helps prevent muscle stiffness and pain, reduced blood circulation, type II Diabetes, Obesity, mental health issues, Cardiovascular conditions and weak bones and muscles.
4. KEEP HEALTHY SNACKS IN THE OFFICE
Keeping healthy snacks in the office like fruits, nuts, raisins, granola, dried seeds, veggie snacks and peanut butter can help you keep energized on busy days where you can't get off work and have lunch.
5. KEEP INSPIRING WORDS AND IMAGES AROUND YOU
Keep your favorite quote, motivational words or Bible verse close by so that motivation is always close by!
