Journalists jailed. Protests crushed. Voices erased.
The civic space is shrinking, and media freedom is under attack. From protest bans to jailed journalists, what’s really happening across Sub-Saharan Africa?

These are not isolated incidents but part of a broader assault on democracy and human dignity. As human rights defenders, civic leaders, and organizations, we stand in solidarity to call out these violations and demand justice, accountability, and protection for those on the frontlines.

Read our joint statement and join the call to stand for human rights!

In collaboration with Arcadia and In place of war partners, we are working on the Build the Peace initiative with collectives in post-conflict zones to transform the machinery of destruction into unifying art.

We created a mural in Chitungwiza which is set to become the Dragonfly's skin as it comes to life during the Waraloo ceremony at 23:50 on Friday/ Saturday and 23:30 on Sunday.

The first project launches at Glastonbury with a spectacular art exchange and ends with a monumental new stage sculpture at Zimbabwe’s ‘Peace in the Hood’ concert.

A reciprocal mural will be painted live during the Festival at the Alchemist’s Playground, Arcadia’s family hub. It’s the first piece of a full-scale installation built from the relics of conflict, and unveiled next year at Peace in the Hood.

Join us and the global community in using art and music to amplify hope.

In 2024, Magamba Network proved that real change is never the work of one, but the result of many. Like a mosaic, this past year was built from countless small pieces: bold ideas, creative risks, powerful partnerships, and everyday acts of resistance.

Each piece, whether a campaign, a film, a festival, a WhatsApp bot, or a moment of protest, held its own shape and story. But together, they formed something far greater: a vision of a liberated Zimbabwe and a more just, green & participatory Africa.

This report tells the story of those pieces, how they came together across our pillars of media, activism, civic tech, and the arts to shape a movement that is as vibrant and multifaceted as the people who power it. From pushing back against fossil fuel giants to launching the first AU hackathon, from amplifying independent voices to virtually filling Parliament’s gallery with young citizens, 2024 was a year where every contribution counted.

Welcome to Mosaic of Impact. Every piece matters. Every piece is power.

After we did our first-ever News Factory training in Malawi, we are proud to have inspired a new political satire show. We teamed up with Zaluso Arts, and now a new has been born. This is what happens when young creatives are given the tools + the platform. We are proud to see young people take the mic and flip the script.👏🏿
