If you cannot say 'NO' to what is bad for you when you are alone (your thoughts, actions and choices) then you will have a hard time saying 'NO' to the bad influence of others. Develop self discipline to high standards for yourself and boundaries with others will begin to flow more naturally.

If you were not able to learn emotional regulation or emotional understanding of yourself during childhood, you can learn to do it and improve on it now!

Without this skill you can spend years being confused by the outcomes in your life.

I explain what emotional regulation is, how to do it so you can set the foundation for boundary work. Grab a paper and pen and give the exercise I describe ...

Isn’t it interesting how our common language conveys the importance of a strong spine or ‘backbone’?

We often say that ‘He had no spine’ implying that this person is weak…why then do we often omit the spine when we think about strength?

Do you think having a strong, balanced spine could have an effect on your confidence?

So you feel different about yourself when you stand up straight?

When you see someone hunched forward and caved in at the chest, do you intuitively believe that they may be unwell or unconfident?

During classes or one on one sessions, I focus on this intuitive notion to improve well- being.

Try giving this a go:
Close your eyes while standing and slump into the worst posture you can create…ask yourself ‘how do I feel!?
Then keeping your eyes closed, stand up as tall and straight as you can and again ask ‘how do I feel now?’

The way you stand has an effect on how you feel about yourself.

It can be helpful to imagine your body and brain as though it is an orchestra. The spine and the brain together are the Conductor.

Imagine if you could ascribe music to every movement you made….how much more would try to make your movements, harmonic and flowing?

This is a fun exercise to do even just for a few minutes.

How would your spine sing to you as you sat, ate, moved?

If you tend to think that the brain and body are separate then you will struggle to see how moving your body in new ways also helps you to form new beliefs about yourself. Working with your body with this in mind opens up space in your brain for new pathways to be made. This gives you a freedom that is hard to achieve with only talk therapies.

Simplicity can sometimes look like complexity.

So often the intellectual mind wants to look for complexity.

But if you can allow yourself to accept that you can focus on what is simple and not what is complex, then you get to see the beauty of the simple things.
And doesn’t appreciation of beauty always give your life more value?
You can give yourself a rest when you focus on simplicity…no need to reinvent the wheel, just enjoy the wheel as it is.

Living in a time of such social media dominance, let’s be reminded of this simple fact.

Freedom of movement doesn’t have to be this extreme…
But the feeling of resilience when you build skills that encourage joint health and good posture is the same feeling this dancer has and you can have for yourself

Posture and Natural Movement

We take gravity for granted because it’s a constant. Unfortunately when poor posture sets in, this force of gravity is no longer our friend. Pain syndromes, impinged joints and and lack of energy are all byproducts of bad posture. But there’s more, posture affects how you move, sit, stand and interact with your environment. Attending to your rehab, sports performance or quality of life should always start with restoring good alignment. Find out how you can correct yours through a personal program or one of the 6 weeks courses on offer.
