                                            *Depression*
Depression is a serious mental health condition that can impact a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. People with depression may experience persistent feelings of sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, and difficulty concentrating or making decisions. They may also have physical symptoms like trouble sleeping or changes in appetite. Depression can be debilitating and lead to problems in relationships, work, and school.
Depression can have a range of negative effects on the body, both physically and mentally. Physically, depression can lead to fatigue, headaches, digestive problems, and sleep problems. It can also increase the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Mentally, depression can cause problems with memory and concentration, lead to difficulty making decisions, and increase feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness.
*Did you no that su***de is a result of depression ?*
The African region is home to 60% of countries with the highest su***de rates worldwide. And, men die more from su***de than women, much more. Ghanaian men were found to be 11 times more likely to die by su***de than women, Namibia, men 8 times more than women. South African men 4 times likely than women, Mozambique 5 times more likely than women. Zimbabwean men 3 times more likely than women, Botswana 3 more likely and Lesotho men are twice more likely to die from su***de than women.
Interestingly, more women are diagnosed with depression than men and not necessarily that women have more depression than men. Men just don’t talk about it and don’t seek help. Depression is a common "cause" of su***de.
And, more females attempt but few succeed, less males attempt and the few that attempt usually succeed.
What the victim could have lacked at times is a listening ear, don't overlook someone talking about taking his life, he is likely crying for help. Talk, take him to any hospital or education institution, help will be waiting for him.
