Hwange Town Hwange Local Board is a local authority which always strives for excellence in service delivery and community development in Hwange.

Hwange Local Board, officially still known as Whange Local Board, was founded in 1974. The local authority was created by statute under the body of the Urban Councils Act, Chapter 29:15. It is located in a mining area, surrounded by various mining giants. Hwange is also endowed with the gift of Mother Nature, being in the middle of Hwange Local Park, rich in wild life and home of the big five. Hwa

nge is geographically located near the magnificent Victoria Falls, which is only 100km away. Hwange has direct road and rail links with all the other major urban centers as well as the neighboring countries of Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Mozambique and Mozambique. ZIMBABWE National Water Authority (ZINWA) today held a stakeholders engagement meeting on the roll-out of prepaid water meters in Hwange Local Board’s area of jurisdiction.
The prepaid meters are replacing the post-paid metering system which has been in place.
The use of prepaid water meters mean that water users can now pay for their water in advance. This brings, with it, great convenience to users who will now have greater, clear and firm control over their water.

MEMBERS of Sizimisele Community Garden are anticipating a bumper harvest following a recent wet spell.
The community garden situated in Empumalanga suburb is a Hwange Local Board initiative aimed at improving household food security for vulnerable families.
Members of the project have grown maize through pfumvudza/intwasa farming concept.
They are looking for an organisation or individuals to assist them to install a borehole as well as erecting a fence around their garden so as to embark on extensive horticultural production.

HWANGE Local Board is clearing overgrown vegetation on roadsides in its area of jurisdiction as part of its efforts to improve road visibility for motorists.
Roadside vegetation clearing is part of the routine road maintenance being carried out by the local authority including storm water drainage clearing.
It improves safety by providing clear sight lines, unobstructed clear zones and proper storm water drainage.

Construction of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) block at Hwange Local Board's Nechibondo Primary School in Empumalanga is expected to be completed in two weeks. A Hwange resident, Ms Sithabile Ndlovu today donated foodstuff to a pregnant Hwange women who was kicked-out from home with her two children after testing positive for Covid-19.
The donation, which comprised of mealie-meal, rice, sugar, salt, soya chunks, a loaf of bread, cooking oil, bag of potatoes, bundle of chomolia and petroleum jell was received by Empumalanga Clinic sister-in-charge Sindiso Mhlanga.
The pregnant woman who was employed as a maid at Baobab was chased out by her employer two weeks ago after she tested Covid-19 positive.
It is said efforts to seek refuge at her mother’s place were also futile as she was also chucked out after she had divulged her status.
The woman is said to have made her way to her live-in boyfriend’s place where he was also forced to move out by other tenants who had got wind of her status.
The women was later picked up by a Hwange Local Board ambulance crew at night together with her two children aged six and nine and put up at Empumalanga Clinic.
She was taken to Five Mile Isolation Centre the following day where she’s currently under isolation.

Hwange Local Board (HLB) has started implementing Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme in its area of jurisdiction (Empumalanga, Baobab and Chibondo suburbs) through utilising the ZWL 2 million it recently received from Government.
HLB is currently embarking on routine maintenance work such as drainage clearance, pothole patching and grass cutting before onset of major works.

HWANGE Local Board chairman Councillor Nqobile Ocean Mabhena won the Outstanding Chairperson at the Local Authorities Leadership Excellence awards held in Harare last Friday night
Cllr Mabhena outsmarted Zvishavane Town Council Councillor Khulekani and Councillor Lyton Sithole of Rusape Town Council who were first and second runners-up respectively.
Town Secretary Pastor Ndumiso Mdlalose was first runner-up in the Outstanding Town Secretary category, which was won by Zvishavane Town Council secretary Tinoda Mukutu with Shurugwi Town Council’s Solom Siziba being second runner-up.
This is Pastor Mdlalose’s second award this year as he was once again the first runner-up in the Public Sector Leader category at the 2019 National Megafest Business Awards.
