*Glaucoma* is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve. The optic nerve is the “cable” which transfers information from the eye to the brain for your eyes to work properly. If left untreated, Glaucoma can result in irreversible blindness.

-In most instances, glaucoma develops gradually so there may be no symptoms in the early stages ie. you do not feel it happen.

-Signs and symptoms differ with the type of glaucoma, but some may notice:
•coloured rings around light
•excessive tearing
•misty vision

Risk factors include:
•being of African descent
•short-sightedness
•family history of glaucoma
•Diabetes

💡Did you know that Glaucoma can actually be detected early through eye exams that check your vision, your visual field, the health of the eye and measure your eye pressure. Yes; a simple check up can save your sight 🤩

💊Treatment options include simple eye drops or surgery; sometimes both may be necessary. Key is once detected, help is available 🌼

Glaucoma is often regarded as the silent thief of sight because it causes painless loss of vision. Some of the risk factors include high intraocular pressure (IOP), being of African descent, short-sightedness, a family history of glaucoma, among many others. Unfortunately, vision lost as a result of glaucoma cannot be restored.The only way to know whether or not you have glaucoma is to get tested.

Caring for our spectacles:

1. When not in use, always place your spectacles in the case. If you have to place them on a surface, ensure that the lenses are not lying on the surface.

2. Always use an appropriate microfiber cloth to clean your lenses. You can also use a lens cleaner with your microfiber cloth.
