*Glaucoma* is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve. The optic nerve is the “cable” which transfers information from the eye to the brain for your eyes to work properly. If left untreated, Glaucoma can result in irreversible blindness.
-In most instances, glaucoma develops gradually so there may be no symptoms in the early stages ie. you do not feel it happen.
-Signs and symptoms differ with the type of glaucoma, but some may notice:
•coloured rings around light
•excessive tearing
•misty vision
Risk factors include:
•being of African descent
•short-sightedness
•family history of glaucoma
•Diabetes
