Men’s Mental Health Month – A Morning with Cosmas Zulu
Mandipa Hope was honoured to host the legendary Cosmas Zulu in celebration of Men’s Mental Health Month. At the remarkable age of 75, Cosmas – affectionately known as “Tsano” – is living proof that clean living might just be the secret to dancing like a teenager. A man who has never touched alcohol or smoked a single cigarette, his energy, humour, and charisma lit up the room.
But Tsano didn’t just entertain – he inspired. He spoke passionately about the dangers of substance abuse, urging men to take control of their health and choices. “What you eat makes you who you are,” he reminded the audience. “You either make food your medicine, or you’ll make medicine your food.” With straight talk and heart, he encouraged men to save money to support their families, instead of spending it on alcohol or destructive habits.
At the core of his message were the three D’s: Discipline, Dedication, and Devotion – values he believes are essential not only in sport, but in life. Whether it’s your health, your career, or your family, Tsano emphasized that these three principles are the foundation of lasting success and wellbeing.
Beyond the words of wisdom, Cosmas is a football legend in every right. A former national team player and coach, he has been part of Zimbabwean football longer than many in the audience had been alive. From training champions to passionately commanding from the sidelines, he’s helped shape the game and mentor generations. His leadership, charm, and boundless energy have left an indelible mark on Zimbabwe’s sporting history.
A true role model on and off the field, Cosmas “Tsano” Zulu reminds us that with clean living, purpose, and a good dance move, age is just a number – and life is what you make it.
