March is Melanoma Awareness Month, a timely reminder of the importance of protecting your skin and checking for changes. Australia has one of the highest rates of melanoma in the world, but early detection can save lives.
Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that can develop from a new spot or an existing mole. The good news is that when detected early, treatment is often very effective.
What can you do to protect yourself?
๐งด Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen daily
๐ Wear a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing
๐ณ Seek shade, especially between 10amโ4pm
๐ Regularly check your skin for new or changing spots
Know the signs:
Look for moles or spots that change in size, shape, or colour, or anything that looks different from the rest. If you notice something unusual, itโs important to have it checked by your GP.
