Over the weekend, 14 of WA’s top emergency response teams tackled real‑world challenges at the 2026 Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition!

Scenarios included vehicle extrication, firefighting, first aid, hazmat and more — testing teamwork, resilience and skill at the highest level. SMERC plays a key role in reinforcing emergency readiness across WA’s surface mining industry.

The NSW State Road Crash Rescue Challenge 2026 was held over the weekend, showcasing the exceptional skills and experience of teams from across the state. The event included a dedicated symposium day focused on refining skills and practising vehicle extrication techniques. With multiple agencies coming together, participants were challenged to test their Road Crash Rescue, First Aid, Casualty Management, and leadership capabilities in realistic scenarios.

Congratulations to all competing teams, and sincere thanks to the organisers and volunteers whose dedication makes this outstanding event possible each year.

For clients who have invested in Holmatro Rescue Equipment, FRSA offers in-house or on-site testing and maintenance by experienced, factory trained service technicians.

Between scheduled servicing, there are a number of critical checks end-users should conduct following every deployment, whether that deployment be actual emergency response operations or training.

Each month, FRSA will post a checklist of instructions from the manufacturer for end-users to refer to when conducting these post-use checks, predominantly focusing on close inspection and lubrication of tools after each use to ensure readiness for immediate deployment.

FRSA is proud to be sponsoring the Vehicle Extrication Trophy for the 2026 CME Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition (SMERC), running from 1-3 May.

Hosted by Northern Star Resources at Hannans North Tourist Mine, this year’s SMERC will be the biggest one yet - bring together 16 teams from across Western Australia. Teams will be put through their paces in realistic, high‑pressure scenarios that reflect the challenges faced by emergency responders every day.

FRSA is excited to support such an important event within the mining and emergency response space, and we’re looking forward to seeing teams in Kalgoorlie for what promises to be an outstanding competition.
