DEEP TISSUE VS. REMEDIAL MASSAGE

While often mistaken for deep tissue massage, remedial massage is intended as a more targeted treatment for pain and injury. Therapists that employ remedial massage are required to study for longer than many of their colleagues and must thoroughly understand the way the body works and the tissues that they are treating.

SHANE JOHNSTONE

Shane is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist with over 12 years experience holding a Masters degree in Occupational Rehabilitation and Workplace Injury Management along with a Bachelor of Science (Sport Science), Bachelor of Business (Sport Management), Certificate IV in Safety, Certificate IV Healthcare (Pre-Ambulance) and Certificate IV in Training, Assessment and Evaluation. Shane draws from his diverse previous work experiences as an Exercise Physiologist in a Rehabilitation Clinic, Vocational Rehabilitation setting, Researcher for Edith Cowan University, Strength & Conditioning coach for WAFL Football and State teams, Lifestyle Coordinator on remote mine sites, Health Consultant for corporate companies and the Content Developer of a Men’s eHealth Network to provide a holistic health approach for his clients.

Shane’s main area of service focus is musculoskeletal injuries under the WA Workers Compensation act.

Shane is an endurance sport enthusiast, now primarily trail running. Shane has trekked to Base Camp of Mt Everest, completed the Kokoda Trail and reached the summit of Mt Rinjani. Shane in April 2018 ran the 1005km Bibbulmun Track from Albany to Kalamunda in 11 days 7 hours and 8 minutes.

Originally from Italy, Virginia has called Perth home for the past 12 years. She holds a Master Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Edith Cowan University and has over a decade of experience in the health and fitness industry as a Personal Trainer.

Virginia has been actively competing in endurance sports for several years, including triathlon, running, and mountain biking, both in Australia and internationally. She has participated in high-level events such as Ironman 70.3 and the SwimRun Solo World Championships and is currently training for the XTERRA World Championship in Italy.

Virginia specialises in sports nutrition for training and competition, women's health, chronic conditions, gut health and weight management. MUSCULOSKELETAL INJURIES 😣

To effectively prevent and treat clients with musculoskeletal conditions such as chronic neck and back pain it is very important to have an active rehab component. Too often we see clients who have become reliant on passive treatment i.e. heat, massage, needling and pain medication which does not alter muscle strength and endurance.
