🌿 When Age Creeps Up 🌿

It happens quietly. One day you’re running at full pace… the next, you notice the small changes — a little stiffness, a slower step, a moment’s forgetfulness. Age has a way of creeping up on us.

But here’s the thing: ageing isn’t about losing who we are. It’s about discovering new ways to thrive.

Some empowerment moves are:
Keeping active - Strength Training does wonders
Consuming less sugar
Trying new things (its time to get outside your comfort zone!)
Stimulate brain activity i.e Learn a new language!

Because life doesn’t stop as we grow older… it keeps opening new doors.

Mae West, famous in the 1930's for her film and theatre performances.
There is no doubt, with having to see yourself age, on screen, she would know too well, that getting older is definitely not for the faint hearted.
However alternatively fortunate, to be able to explore the later years, and to see the layers fall away and discover parts of yourself that may have never been explored. Its all about the mindset.

There’s a lot of judgment out there — and age doesn’t discriminate!
Our Art Therapy sessions welcome everyone, whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush or explored your creativity before. You’re invited to be curious and see what lies within — even if you come up blank sometimes!
This beautiful piece was created by one of our Art Therapy participants. She’s allowed her creative gifts to flow freely, and this is one of her most recent masterpieces. You might be surprised by what emerges when you give yourself the chance to explore.

Today we celebrate the Internation Day of Older Persons, and during Mental Health Awareness Month, a common thread emerges — connection.

At Lifebridge, we witness something truly beautiful every day: strangers becoming friends, offering hugs, sitting together, and letting all the “other things” slip from their minds, even if just for a moment.

That’s the power of connection. It bridges the gap between isolation and inner conflict, bringing people fully into the present with one another. The more we open — especially our hearts — the more walls come down. Vulnerability is met with understanding, and an even deeper connection is born. In this space, anything feels possible.

And here’s the gift of ageing: our older community often models this openness naturally. They show us how to lean into connection, to soften, and to share ourselves more authentically. It’s a lesson for us all.

So today, we say thank you to our seniors for showing us the way — and here’s to connection, a simple yet powerful antidote to the struggles of mental health.

Across Indigenous cultures, growing older is seen as a gift—an honour that comes with wisdom, stories, and teachings to guide future generations.
In Western culture, we are learning to embrace this same truth: that older people are not only part of our community, but at the heart of it. National Older Persons Day is a chance to celebrate their value, learn from their experiences, and deepen the respect and connection that enriches us all.
Happy Seniors Day 1st October - may we open up communications for there stories. wisdom and attributes to be shared :)

Ever wonder why there are so many people that sing in the shower?
Intrinsically, they know it's good for them! And its safe to say, if we all got over the potential shame 🤪of singing in front of people, we would get to experience more of the benefits that come with singing!
Our Choir/Music Group sound absolutely sensational!! Coming from varied of background the harmonies (in particular the acabella's!) sound delicious and we (the cottage) just want to hear more of them!
If you have a desire to sign or just love singing.. please come join us, the feel good benefits absolutely outweigh the benefits to yourself, your body and your cells x 100%!!

Another couple we had a pleasure to get to know this week with raising the awareness of Dementia and how it effects couples is James (aka Elmo) and Judith.
Both nurses in their "past" life, they have the knowledge and understanding of what the disease looks like and how it affects individuals/families/couples, which has given them a beauiful understanding and respect to each other as they traverse the path.
