If you’re the one everyone turns to for help, who do you turn to?

We all need a place to stop performing and just be honest. A place to share struggles and gain practical tools.

If you are lacking sleep and motivation, experiencing exhaustion from holding it all together, and don’t feel like your usual self, now is the time to seek support.

An open, honest conversation is the way to start ✅

If you want to make things better, more manageable, and have a clearer mind, reach out to Rays Room Therapy today.

To ensure children adjust well to parental separation, here are two things parents should agreed upon:

✅The separation story – the parents should agree on a simple explanation to tell the children that emphasises they are still loved by both parents, even if the parents are no longer together.

✅Consistency between both homes – maintaining a consistent schedule between the two new homes allows children to feel a sense of safety and security, overall assisting them in this transition.

Explosive arguments are usually about something completely unrelated.

Often, it is the unresolved arguments that lead to future arguments over small things.

Here are 3 ways to break the cycle:

🟢Pause, breathe, and allow yourself time to think before responding.

🟢Use “I” statements. Instead of starting arguments with “You never” or “You always”, try “I feel hurt when”. This shifts the tone from blame to openness.

🟢Talk face to face. Try sitting down and looking at each other. Focus on connection, rather than proving who is right.

We all have things to do, but often don’t have the motivation to start. So we avoid and procrastinate, leading us to feel guilty.

Instead of waiting to feel motivated, pick a task that can be done in 2 minutes or less.

Small achievable actions create momentum.

For Example:
🚫Clean the whole kitchen
✅Wipe the benchtop

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and experiencing low moods, try these 3 things:

✅Acknowledge your feelings. Say out loud "I'm not okay".

🌿Step outside, breathe in the fresh air, go for a walk in nature.

💛Reach out for support. Call a friend. Connection can reduce feelings of emotional isolation.

The truth is, worry is normal. This is your brain trying to stay safe.

However, when your child's anxiety is starting to affect their daily life:

🌼Don't dismiss it, Normalise it -- say "its okay to feel nervous, it means your brain is working really hard"

🌼Be aware of your own response -- Calm is contagious.

🌼When the child is overwhelmed, co-regulate -- sit together, practice deep breathing, go for a walk.

Reach out today to start therapy and learn how to support your child's mental health.

Reduce conflict in the family home by:

✅Setting clear boundaries. Structure reduces conflict by removing constant negotiation.
✅Picking your battles. Not every decision needs to be challenged.
✅Create calm spaces in the home and engage in fun activities.

Does your child get angry and upset over the smallest things?

Anger is often the surface emotion. However deep down, the child may be feeling sad, shame, or fear.

Here are 2 ways to help children express their emotions effectively:

⭐️Validate before fixing -- let the child know that you understand their current feelings

⭐️Regulate yourself -- your calmness can help the child feel calm and safe

At Ray's Room, we help parents decode children's emotions and help build calmer homes.

Our Story

People ask me often, how I began working as a clinical therapist and the truth is that it was always a dream for me to be able to work with people, more so the most vulnerable of our society. I began my career in social work in the disabilities sector and quickly learnt that I loved working with people and loved being a part of something greater than myself.

I moved into program management and developed small programs from the ground up including programs for young people, the elderly, and carers. I felt the thrill of nurturing a program, marketing it, and watching it grow.

Then I spent close half a decade working therapeutically with children and families who had gone through difficult separations and cut my teeth on cases that were stuck or difficult to see results in.

From there I worked at NSW Health at the Children’s Hospital again working with some of our society’s most vulnerable - this time adolescents and families with Eating Disorders. At this point I felt I was ready to do more on my own and begun building a small practice on Saturdays and after business hours, but my waiting list for private clients was growing. I needed to decide if I was going to take a leap and quit work at NSW Health and NGOs, and try to create my own clinic. ‘Ray’s Room’ has been the vehicle by which all of my past experiences have come together. I have been able to apply my time working with various sections of the population, with my love for fostering a small business. While my client scope has grown, so too has the team. We now have a small but growing team of therapists and admin workers, dedicated to supporting children, young people, individuals, couples and families all across Sydney. We are proud to throw everything we have at our cases and ensure that while we are not outcome-driven, we are successful at attaining client goals. I would love to share my dream with you and am always open to understanding yours. Feel free to drop a line and find out more about myself or any of my other colleagues at Ray’s Room - we are dedicated to supporting all of our clients. Tah, Ray
