Last week I attended an Ultrasound course to continue to improve my skills. This was provided by the training group Zedu in Greensborough VIC. I spent the day improving my skills on ultrasound of the te**es (balls) - this is so useful for reviewing guys after vasectomy or assessing lumps and bumps. Got to keep learning

After the procedure, I give a handout with what to expect and how to care for the dressing. My number is along the bottom of the sheet, for guys to call if there are any problems. I had a quirky call a few days ago when a guy called as he was concerned there was no pain at all after the procedure. I looked back at his notes and saw it had been a straightforward vasectomy. I explained rather than being a problem, I was super pleased he had no pain! Now I can't say that everyone is this pain free but I really try to make things as comfortable as possible - lots of explaination before hand, lots of explaination during procedure, using lots of long acting anaesthetic and getting you to be regular with pain relief tablets after the procedure. Book for an initial consultation to discuss if vasectomy could be the right thing for you and your partner.

It is mens health week 13-19th June. One thing we can all do more of is exercise. For me that is two low cost options - the Couch to 5K running app and the Reddit bodyweight program. I was out for a run yesterday in one of the breaks from Melbournes drizzle this time of year

You need to put your feet up when you get home from your vasectomy!! Recently I had a chap touch base with me a week after his vasectomy, still in lots of pain and swelling. I brought him straight in for a review, examination and ultrasound. I could find nothing wrong - no infection, no bleed, nothing to explain why things hadn't settled down. He then sheepishly admitted he had gone straight back to his standing, walking all day quite physical warehouse job. I instructed him to take the rest of the week off, provided some more pain relief and got him to go home to the couch. At a follow up 48hours later he was feeling 100% better! This is a small procedure, but still an operation in a tender area. At least 48hours of rest allows the surgery a chance to calm down, swelling to start to settle and will actually speed up your recovery. Going straight into too much work will prevent things from settling down and actually prolong your recovery. So - get on the couch and get those feet up after the vasectomy.

I had a great situation with a guy yesterday who attended for vasectomy.
After the vasectomy we walked from the procedure room to my consulting room to give him follow up information and organise the 3 month follow up test.
When he sat down in my room he said "I don't feel any different to when I came here this morning, I don't feel I have had a procedure at all".
That is my Holy Grail - a comfortable procedure, not rushed, with great pain relief where you feels as if nothing has actually occurred when we are finished!
