Having worked in the disability and mental health sectors for over 30 years, I’ve seen huge shifts in how we understand and support Autistic people. Many changes have been positive, others still have a long way to go.

I’ve written about these reflections in my latest blog — if you’re interested, you can read it here: https://www.kiddclinic.com.au/blog/therapy-is-changing-dBcei

Autism is not a disease to be cured or prevented — it’s a neurotype, a way of being in the world.

Yes, being Autistic in a world built for non-Autistic people can come with very real challenges, but those challenges deserve compassion, support, and meaningful change, not blame or fear.

That’s why we strongly reject unfounded and ridiculous claims that fuel stigma and guilt, and positions Autism as something harmful that should be avoided.

Our stance is clear: Autistic people deserve understanding, accessibility, and respect.

We support and celebrate the Autism community - yesterday, today and every day to come.

Such a valuable opportunity for parents, carers, and therapists to start planning for the transition to high school.

Earlier this year, we facilitated an interactive webinar on this topic that was incredibly well attended. It was full of practical ideas, shared not only by our team but also by attendees, highlighting just how much collective wisdom and experience exists in the community.

If you're supporting a young Autistic person (including PDAers) moving from primary to secondary school, this is a great chance to access resources, plan ahead, and connect with others.

Transition to High School is back!
➡️ Is your child transitioning to high school?
➡️ Are you unsure how to best support them?

With the right preparation, collaboration, and a
neuro-affirming approach, this transition can be navigated in a way that honours the unique needs of Autistic (including PDA) students, and parents report feeling more confident and better equipped for the journey ahead.

"This webinar was fantastic. Content rich and so practical. As an OT and mother of an autistic child, I learnt so much. I'd recommend this for anyone supporting neurodivergent children in their transition to high school, including teachers, therapists and parents." - Parent & OT

We are passionate about the work we do and work really hard to support our clients and each other. Having time to relax and enjoy each other's company outside of work is such a blessing 🥰.

This years TKC Midwinter Soiree took place in Leederville and it was so fun to bring a huge amount of our team members into one space. We rarely get to gather all at once and we had a great time dancing and chatting together - thanks to Karl and Theresa for putting on a party for us! ✨

⚫️ Yesterday marked the start of NAIDOC Week, a time to reflect, celebrate, and honour. This year marks the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week as we know it. Five decades of acknowledging and uplifting the rich culture, strength, and resistance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

🟡 The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” reflects on the courage and wisdom of those who came before, while recognising the powerful momentum carried forward by today’s young First Nations leaders. It is a call to acknowledge and celebrate not only the survival, but the thriving of cultures that have existed on this land for over 65,000 years.

🔴 Whether you're participating in community events, listening to, and amplifying First Nations voices, or beginning your journey of learning, NAIDOC Week is a chance for all of us to engage with new understandings, and ever-evolving education led by First Nations people.

You can access a range of educational resources, including the Supporting NAIDOC Toolkit, at:

✨ We had so much fun at our first TKC PJ Party! We did crafts, played games, got glammed up, snuggled up and watched a movie and left with some wonderful new friends. We can’t wait for our next party next week! ✨

💭 We would love the opportunity to receive anonymous feedback and perspectives from adults who identify with the Pathological Demand Avoidance profile regarding their experiences in therapy.

☑️ The survey has 10 questions, but you are not required to answer all of them. There is a combination of checkboxes, and room for you to share any additional thoughts.

🕐 It usually only takes a few minutes to complete.
