Peak Pose for our Yoga Classes in Manning this week
🌛Forward Fold/Uttanasana 🌜
A deep forward fold pose that stretches the main muscles of the legs. The spine is given a deliberate stretch so it's also a great pose to help increase spinal flexibility.
As we work to build up to this basic but still fairly intense pose, we will work to bring balance to the upper and lower body.
With the head lowered below the heart, this pose could be considered a mild inversion. When in the pose, as the chest and ribcage are compressed, it is best to continue a smooth, rhythmic, continuous breath to help to keep the torso and heart and overall body relaxed. This is achieved by focusing on the breath whilst also maintaining the strength of the limbs as we hold the pose. There is also some compression in the abdomen therefore it also helps to activate the digestive system.
Once in the pose, I love the softening & grounding qualities that can come forth as we hold the pose for a few intentional moments, remaining calm and steady.
We offer plenty of modifications for those that need something less intense or gentle this week…
