On Mental Health Nurses Day, we recognise the emotional demands of caring for others. Compassion fatigue can be part of this work, and caring for yourself matters too. Small acts of self-care, support from others, and taking time to rest can help protect wellbeing.

If you need further support, we are here for you. Learn more about our support services, link in bio.

Strong relationships aren’t built through big gestures alone. They are shaped by everyday moments: checking in, listening with care, noticing effort, and making time to connect.

In our latest blog, we explore how small, consistent habits can support understanding, trust, and connection over time without needing things to be perfect.

On Safer Internet Day, take a moment to check in with yourself. The way we connect online can shape how we feel, think, and cope.

Noticing when things feel hard, talking openly, and reaching out for support can make a real difference. Whether it’s a trusted person or professional help, support is there when you need it.

You don’t have to navigate this alone. Support is available: https://www.mhfa.org.au/get-support

Message from the CEO: At the Mental Health Foundation Australia, we express our profound sorrow and solidarity following the tragic and deeply distressing events at Bondi Beach. Our hearts are with those who have lost loved ones, those who were injured, and all who have been emotionally impacted.

This targeted attack against Jewish Australians, occurring on the first day of Hanukkah, a time of light, faith, and joy, represents a deeply disturbing act of hatred, antisemitism, and terrorism. Such violence strikes not only at one community, but at the very heart of Australia’s shared values—compassion, respect, and peaceful coexistence.

There is no place in our nation for hate, violence, or terrorism of any kind. Acts like this leave lasting mental health scars, not only for those directly affected, but for communities across the country who are left feeling shaken, fearful, and heartbroken.

At this difficult time, we call on all Australians to come together as one united nation. Australia’s strength lies in its diversity—people of all faiths and cultures, from over 236 multicultural backgrounds, standing together in empathy and mutual respect. We embrace our Jewish brothers and sisters and affirm our shared commitment to peace, dignity, and humanity.

May we respond not with fear, but with compassion; not with division, but with unity. Let us support one another, honour those impacted, and continue to build an Australia where every person feels safe, valued, and supported—both in body and in mind.

If you are feeling distressed or overwhelmed following these events, support is available.
You don’t have to face this alone. Call our helpline on 1300 643 287.

Support Groups can be a lifeline.

Bipolar Life, one of the numerous support groups here at the MFHA, has assisted journeys towards stability, growth and peace. The connections, empathy and shared understanding found at Bipolar Life closes the gap between walking the path alone and finding a sense of belonging and community.

Support groups are not just a place to learn and share, but also home to connection, friendship, inspiration and hope. Sharing our lived experience is invaluable, you do not have to go through your journey alone, take that first step towards prioritising yourself!

Each one of us has a suitcase that carries our troubles, but you don’t have to carry that suitcase by yourself. In this safe space, the Wellness Hub opens the doors to lightening the weight of your burdens.

In today's episode, our lovely clinician Annemarie Ryan leads us through her experience as a provisional counsellor at the MHFA, a journey that has been guided by a motivation to support and assist those who walk through her door.

With compassion and care, Annemarie has provided immense support to the foundation and those seeking guidance. Focusing on an empathy-based person-centred practice, she encourages those who are navigating struggles, to take that first step in unpacking that suitcase.
