We’ve officially launched our 8-month Strong Minds, Strong Mines mental health program at Greenbushes. Shout-out to the incredible crews on-site for getting behind this initiative with open minds and strong hearts and a massive thank you to Soa Palelei and Becky Felstead for passionately facilitating the program.

Together, we’re creating a culture where it’s okay to speak up, to check in, and to look out for one another. This is more than a program it’s a movement to build stronger minds, safer sites, and a future where mental health is everyone's business.

⚖️ Balance is the key!

The Strong Minds, Strong Mines Wellbeing Triangle is a simple but powerful reminder that true wellbeing means keeping your social, physical, and mental health in balance.

When one side is out of sync, it can impact the others - and your overall performance, both at work and in life.

✅ Social health is about connection - with family, mates and your crew.
💪 Physical health is how well your body handles the demands of the job and daily life.
🧠 Mental health is how you think, feel, and cope with stress.

Strive for balance - and don't be afraid to reach out if something's off.

In the mining industry, mental health stigma is still one of the biggest barriers to people getting the support they need.

Too many people stay silent - worried they'll be judged, treated differently, or even risk their job just by speaking up. And because of that, anxiety, depression, and other challenges often go unnoticed and unsupported for far too long.

But here's the truth: seeking help is not a weakness - its a sign of strength! 💪 It's time to break the silence, challenge the stigma, and build a culture where looking after your mental health is just part of the job.

Let's make early intervention the norm - not the exception.

It was powerful to witness the team open up, support one another and embrace the importance of mental health on site. The momentum is building and so is the strength of our community.

Let’s keep talking. Let's keep supporting.💪🧠

Strong Minds Strong Mines is an award-winning wellness program that raises awareness about the physical and mental health challenges faced by those working in remote and mining environments.

We combine evidence-based research with real-world experience, delivering content in a relatable and down-to-earth way especially when it comes to topics that can be tough to talk about. Our mission is to break down the stigma and discrimination that still surrounds mental health in the industry.

We work alongside companies to strengthen their existing health and safety systems and help build a more supportive, mentally healthy workplace culture. Our proactive approach focuses on prevention and early intervention, increasing awareness, understanding, and compassion across the board.

Strong Minds, Strong Mines ambassador Soa Palelei recently visited the Greenbushes site, where he had the pleasure of meeting some of the local Wellness Champions Shane Kerrigan, Harley Butler, Zachary Spencer, and Roger Purnell.

These legends are stepping up in a big way, volunteering to help roll out the Strong Minds, Strong Mines presentation this June. It takes real courage to lead from the front when it comes to mental health, and that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Massive respect to the Greenbushes team for showing leadership where it matters most. Together, we’re breaking the stigma one site at a time. 👊

Soa Palelei and Becky Felstead have kicked off the 8-month rollout of Strong Minds, Strong Mines at Westgold Southern Operations! What sets this program apart? Consistency. We don’t just show up once—we return, train champions, and keep the conversation going.
One champion put it best: “The regular visits make a huge impact. It shows that mental health is a priority, not just a one-off discussion.”
This kind of long-term engagement makes all the difference. We’re excited to visit more sites and keep these conversations going over the next 8 months!

Exciting news! Becky Felstead, our amazing facilitator, has just launched the Mental Health for Leaders training at Westgold Southern Ops!

Here's what we're exploring:
- Ensuring psychosocial safety and building a supportive culture
- How to navigate conversations around anxiety, depression, and su***de ideation
- Spotting burnout in others and prioritising our own well-being

A standout moment has been our discussion on authentic leadership and the value of transparency. We've delved into how open leadership fosters trust and how performance reviews focused on responsibility can drive genuine growth. Rather than simply ticking boxes, we asked:

🌟 "How can companies better support employees in their careers?"
🌟 "What role do leaders play in employee growth?"

By emphasising prevention and early intervention, we are equipping leaders to drive meaningful change. Looking forward to seeing the positive outcomes of these conversations!

We’ve just wrapped up the first month of our 8-month Strong Minds, Strong Mines program at Tropicana Gold Mine, and the journey so far has been inspiring.

Through 12 presentations, we’ve connected with over 350 crew members from underground, surface, and maintenance teams. Starting conversations about mental health and su***de prevention can feel daunting, but it’s incredible to see the gradual shift: quieter beginnings turning into open, meaningful dialogue.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but every step forward matters. Thanks to our wellness champions for their courage and commitment to building a culture of support, understanding, and connection. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see the lasting impact of these conversations.

Together, we’re breaking the stigma and making mental health a priority. 💙

The Strong Minds, Strong Mines team had the privilege of connecting with the crew at Dawson South in remote Queensland to discuss strategies for managing stress, building resilience, and promoting mental wellbeing. One key theme that emerged was how finances, uncertainty and lack of security can deeply affect mental health, and the role each of us can play in these situations. We explored the concept of focusing on what’s within our control and what we can change, versus what lies beyond our influence.

Thank you to the Dawson South team for their engagement and willingness to share. Your openness in addressing these important issues makes a huge difference.

If we can make a difference in just one life, we’ve fulfilled our purpose. Not everyone may need to hear it, but for someone, hearing that they’re not alone could make all the difference and even save a life.

Our team visited Foxleigh in remote Queensland to speak with crews about Unhelpful Thinking: Awareness and Prevention Against Depression, Anxiety, and Self-Harm.
Unhelpful thinking can isolate us, but recognising these patterns and fostering open conversations can lead to healing and hope.
To the Foxleigh team, thank you for your openness and engagement. Together, we’re breaking the stigma and building a culture where mental health is prioritised, and everyone knows they matter.
Let’s keep the conversation going.
Happy New Year team
