Today marks 20 years since my life changed forever.
On the 1st of April, 2005, a car crash on the way to work set me on an entirely new path. In just a split secondābecause someone missed a stop sign and didnāt see meāeverything shifted.
Since then, Iāve often called myself a professional patient. I spent years in waiting rooms, waiting for what came next. That time took its tollānot just physically, but emotionally and financially too. But I also learned something important: you never know how strong you are until you're forced to be.
Without the unwavering support of my incredible family, I genuinely don't know where Iād be. There were years when I disappeared from the worldātrying to process, to heal, to find direction again.
Ironically, that crash became the turning point that opened new doors. I went to university, something I never wouldāve done otherwise. Iāve had the chance to travel the world, work alongside brilliant minds, and meet extraordinary familiesāfrom Canada to Hong Kong to the US.
Eventually, I came back home to Perth, where life looks very different now. Starting a little family of my own with my amazing and supportive wife has been the greatest gift. Her encouragement has meant everything, especially in the creation of Simplified Plan Management. Iām now lucky to work every day with a team I admire, and to support people navigating the complex world of the NDISāsomething I understand all too well.
To everyone whoās been part of this journeyāthank you. For your patience, your kindness, and your belief.
Twenty years on, Iām full of gratitude. I canāt wait to see what the next chapter brings.
