Since the 1970s, our customers have trusted our expertly tailored and solidly constructed chairs for mobility, functionality and comfort. Our company was born from a dedication to precision and ingenuity. Two brothers from Perth with a shared passion for engineering set up business in the early seventies to make bespoke parts and equipment for a number of clients, including some hospitals. In the mid seventies, a major Perth hospital asked the brothers if they could manufacture wheelchairs to individual specifications. The brothers quickly put their skills and inventiveness to the test. They provided prototypes to the hospital with the promise that they could deliver a made-to-order wheelchair in weeks rather than months. Their resourcefulness was rewarded with a flood of orders as no other Australian manufacturer was producing suitable scripted wheelchairs at that time, Interstate orders soon started coming in and demand for their wheelchairs surged. The brothers decided to specialise in wheelchairs and in 1983, they re-branded their company to become Glide Products. By 1994, they were manufacturing a range of both manual and powered wheelchairs. Today, Glide continues the tradition of exceptional dedication to the craft, ongoing innovation and almost limitless customisation, maintaining our benchmark as Australia’s leading manufacturer of scripted wheelchairs. In the spirit of reconciliation Glide acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
